Default New rules regarding personal finances and popular favor

After many days of toil by Pontifex, Xavier, Lord Kal, Boeing, and yours truly, we have finally come up with what we think is a great new system that will really revolutionize this game.

Please download the attached rules sheet and keep it somewhere on your hard drive, as it will be important in figuring out many aspects of the new systems.

    What we've added:

Personal finances - Senators will now get a per term income that can be spent on many new features.

Violence - use violence to intimidate, humiliate, and even kill your rivals! Just don't get caught...

Henchmen/Associates/Guards - buy guards to protect your property, associates to conduct legitimate business, and Henchmen for other, more sinister purposes...

Politics - This is the biggest change of all. In reality, Senator's votes had little consequence on elections. Magistrates from Praetor and higher were elected by the Centuriate Assembly, a body of citizens divided into centuries as in the legion, with wealthier "soldiers" such as the equites holding the most power; the lower offices, especially tribune, were dominated by the mob in the Tribal Assembly.

Therefore, if you want to run for office from now on, you will need to play to the people somewhat. If you want to run for tribune, you'll need to appeal directly to them. Each term we'll update your standings with the people based on the actions you have completed.

We'll update your rankings and money for this turn shortly.

Hopefully you enjoy these new changes.

all of these rules seem extremely unlikely for the time period. If it were the 100BC game, then it'd be more realistic, but up to this point, the wars that Rome kept fighting means the Plebs were mainly kept busy with their patriotism and there wasn't much need to pander to them like what had happened following the reforms of Marius.

If we keep expanding at the current rate we'll get the marian reforms before the 200's are out.

Is Group of Slaves, any number of slaves up to 5 or something like that, or just one slave?
Its one group of slaves. On your economic info each group of slaves = 1. For clarity's sake lets say 3 per group.

Only one question, how do we know what the die gives us? And who casts it?
We'll use an online number generator like www.random.org to do the die stuff. A mod not connected with the event will roll.
i demand to start out with maxed popular support, im that awesome
For fairness sake everyone starts out with base popular support this go.

I take offense to that, and declare that you are WRONG.

I bet your a patrician *grrrrrrrrrrrrr*
People will believe a lie because they want it to be true; or they're afraid it's true.
Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe its true, or because they're afraid it might be true. Peoples' heads are full of knowledge, facts and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.

And will there be a separate thread to show popular support like the financial ones?

Eventually, as soon as it is determined who will moderate popular favor consistently.

It will be updated just before each election cycle.

I will probably take up the popular favor thing. Since I can't seem to get this mod to work for the life of me I'll only be able to run for minimal roles anyway, so I'll have some extra time.

The ones that are listed with the houses come 'with the deal' but any extras must be purchased.

so if we own a palatine domus, it's possible for us to also own 5 roman veterans without paying for the initial cost but we do have to pay upkeep?
