there are region issues, Steam region locked the Orange Box so no one could get copies from Thailand at a discount price (precedent). I don't know why CA didn't address this in their Steam FAQ
There are peoples who don't have steam......
What about mod support for Steam?
I know this may previously have been answered...
My brother has steam on his computer. Could i get steam (apparently it is coming with the ETW disk) and install it on my computer without any clashes? or would Mr. Steam get mad cause we are on the same IP address?
Please help a confused fool.![]()
I'm just REALLLYYY glad that the mods will work with Steam!!!! Yay.
Question!
What with the region codes? I live in Denmark, what if i order the game from Britian to save some cash? Will i be able to play?
Wow, I'm incredibly disappointed by this. My gaming PC is in another area of the house, and not connected to the internet. I don't do any online gaming, and I don't need it connected. So now I'm going to have to drag this thing across the house just to activate this game?
And I reject the idea that most people have the internet, because I know a good deal of people who don't, for a variety of reasons. And I know people who have canceled because they simply cant afford it in this economy. Its getting to that point for us too. We had a $100/week grocery allotment, now its down to $50, and sometimes $30. We pay $40/month for basic speed internet. And we have no other option. Getting dial-up would be just as much as we don't have a land line. So if things continue, we will cancel our service. We already canceled our TV service last year.
Aside from that, I know a handful of people who don't have the internet because they live in older buildings where it hasn't been installed yet. They need to have a majority of tenants agree to sign up for service before any of the service providers will run a line. They cant get that majority.
I lived in a building like that in early '05. Its not uncommon here.
This is madness. I give CA my money, then I have to jump through hoops just to play the game I bought? And install something I don't want or need on my PC? What if my account gets stolen again, and I have to reinstall? Ive already went through having lost upwards of $100 in games I bought through Steam, including HL2, when my previous account was stolen. This might protect CA's bottom line for a few weeks before someone cracks the exe, but its hanging us out there to be taken advantage of.
A much better way would be simply putting a number on a slip of paper, in each game, along with an 800 number to call. You call that number and an automated system gives you the unique activation number. That leaves nobody out, and is truly fool proof, as Steam is not.

Can you have multiple steam accounts per computer? I'm planning on buying the regular steam version of Empier first, then possibly buying the collectors or special forces edition later from gamestop with the mass amounts of giftcards i have for there. Anyway, im not sure if i can have both versions of Empire activated on one account.
BobJr:
you better check with CA or Steam to make sure. AFAIK, ETW will have region lock like most Steam games.
Here's the discussion on the subject:

I've read through the entire topic here and I just need something clarified. If I buy the retail version and NOT the steam digital download version do I still have to use steam to activate it. I realize I will have to activate the retail version online but must it be through steam?
for the record steam rocks
E8500 @ 4GHz (445x9) | TRUE120 + Noctua NF-12P | 4GB 1066MHz Corsair Dominator (5-5-5-15) | Gigabyte EP45-DS4P | HIS HD4870x2 | TT Truepower 750w Modular | TT Armor+ | 2 x WD 640GB | Windows 7 RC 64-bit
how do i activate all my special units if i bought the special forces edition and have an exclusive unit. Because steam authentication only allows 1 code to be entered and i am quite sure they are 2 separate codes
I realize that if I purchase it retail I'll still have to "activate" it over Steam, however, will the installation process for the retail disk do that automatically or do I have to download Steam manually prior to/after installing to activate it?
