As far as i am aware, ETW is "integrated" with Steam, it is simply not possible (legally) to run it without Steam in the background.

If you're getting an 0x0000000F4 STOP error then you may have some HDD issues. Try HD Tune. Grab the freeware version and do a full scan on the drive that Steam is installed on. You may have some erroneous clusters.
Running ETW without Steam is against the EULA and impossible without illegally hacking the executable. Which is of course, illegal. :P

Coming soon.
If HD tune doesn't find anything try a fresh re-install of Windows. If that fails then I'm blaming your SATA or IDE controller which generally means a bad motherboard.

You can put Steam on both computers and thus the game on both Computers. The only thing is, the game will be tied to one account. Thus, you can only log into Steam on one computer to run the game at one time. I'm not sure what it would do if you were simultaneously logged onto two computers. It would definetly kick you off a server if you were on multiplayer, but other than that i'm not sure.But now with steam and its registration system, even if he didnt want to play it online, we BOTH have to copies because, as far as i have read, there is no dual/multiple install system.
My gripe with SecuRom is if I uninstall the game, it's still there. If I want to uninstall Empire, I can uninstall Steam aswell. It's not stuck on my HDD like SecuRom is. Imo, Steam is definetly the lesser evil. That, and i've had Steam running on my computer for years without problems.Really? The others are passive. Steam is not. Its something installed on my PC, that I don't want, and certainly don't need.

I try to implement a mod and it doesn t work (Barbarum Mod).
I really ask myself how to install mod with steam. There isn't any explanation for that.

Thank you very much, know that we now Empire is moddable, but is that 100%? Empire wont be much without mods after we get board, if we get board.
I believe some mods for Medieval have ways of getting them to work with Steam. Don't know about Rome though.I try to implement a mod and it doesn t work (Barbarum Mod).
I'm pretty sure it'll be perfectly modable. There's trouble with mods on the steam versions of Rome & Medieval II simply because they were made without Steam. Since everything will now run through Steam, mods will be designed for it, thus there shouldn't be any problems.Thank you very much, know that we now Empire is moddable, but is that 100%? Hi, I was wondering if I bought a retail version of Empire. Would I only need to register and authenticate with steam once? And after that I can launch the game without login on to steam? (Ie. launch the game without internet connection at all; like a offline game)
well i have the steam site blocked and when i try to start steam it wont unless i unblock the site
(This is what I've experienced);
When you buy a game on steam, you only own the right for your one steam account to play the game, you don't own the game itself of course, and from my experience you can't re-sell this right legally. So you are unable to buy it, and then resell for a bit less if you dislike it.
If i buy E:TW Special Edition and get an exclusive unit as well, how do i unlock both when steam activation only accepts one code?
Q: Will the retail copy of ETW come with disks? If so what would they be fore since you have to enter a code via steam?
The retail copy will contain disks, on which will be the game files in a standard installer which also includes steam. It will do a check to see if steam is present, if it is, it will install the game files to your steam\steamapps\common directory.
You'll then need to login and enter your code to activate and play the game.
