    Default Quest for Elysium [Sunday 8th February 7.00 p.m. GMT / 2.00 p.m. EST]

    A Vanilla RTW tournament:

You were marching your troops to their new post when you angered the gods. For your impiety you and your men have all been damned to the Abyss. But the gods love glory - and through conquest you can prove your worth to redeem your souls.

From the frozen heart of darkness to the sunlit fields of paradise - can YOU lead your army through the shadows to find the Elysian fields?

It's been a while now since TWC has organised a fixed tournament in the get-together "lobby party"-style - I think the last one was GeneralChaos' Barbarian Invasion cavalry-warfare event back in October. So I figured - why not step up, hold a new one myself and see if anyone is interested?

I'd like to take part in the tournament myself, but it will depend on how many contestants show up to compete - if there are many then it might be unwieldy for me to play.

    THE EVENT:

I've picked Prince of Macedon's old scheduling time for the event, since that seemed to work well for people:

    The Date: Sunday - 8th February 2009
    The Time: 2.00 p.m. EST / 7.00 p.m. GMT
    The Place: Competitive Lobby.
To Sign-Up: Post the NAME YOU ARE GOING TO PLAY UNDER here in this thread.

    THE BATTLES:

In the first stage (grouped Round Robin) contestants fight for their place in the finals. These battles will be fought in the Abyss - the grim, twilit abode of the lost.

    Map: Southwater.
    Time of day: Night.
    Season: Winter.
    Weather: Heavy Rain.

In the second stage (elimination) contestants decide their final ranking. These battles will be fought on the Elysian fields.

    Map: Grassy Flatland.
    Time of day: Mid-day.
    Season: Summer.
    Weather: Calm.

    THE RULES:

The rules are a modification of Xavier's KotH-system:

    Denarii: 10,000.
    Factions: All factions permitted.
    Units:

Max. 7 archers [up to 4 of these may be horse-archers]

    Max. 2 scythed-chariots.
No other types of chariots allowed.

    Max. 2 berserkers.
    Max. 2 elephants.
    Max. 2 artillery.

All other unit-types are unlimited, i.e. slingers, infantry, cavalry, javelin.
[No restriction on units "the same".]

    Other rules:
    * No use of the red border for defence.
    * Large unit size.
    * Don't restrict the camera.
    * A broken connection forfeits the match, unless the opponent is happy to re-fight.

    THE PRIZE:

I will make two commentary battle videos and post them on Youtube. These will be of:
    1) The Final; and
    2) The battle I find most interesting.

After every battle you fight, SAVE YOUR REPLAY. Then at the end, attach the files to an e-mail and send them to the e-mail address I will give at the start of the event.

Plus, for enthusiastic TWC forum-posters, I'm sure everyone will be generous with rep-points for the winner and semi-finalists.

    I am in.

    My name will be |Sith|3|Teo

    About the time, if it's 7:00pm GMT, than on GMT+2 it's 9:00pm. I'm a genius.

I am in, I might be able to come.
I am always online as HG-Stormer
Plus I don't understand the battle, why does the first have to be rainy and dark? Is it part of the test.

No, its just part of Cluny's theme. If you read the paragraph at the start of the tourney information, you should have understood that. Is there any possibility you can move it back to a Saturday instead of Sunday? I like the look of this a lot, but Sunday for all of you is Monday for me, which means I have to go to school

So that's 5 contestants so far - a good start. Hopefully there will be more to sign up yet.

It's partly thematic, because I think it just looks freaking cool when it's dark, wet and freezing-cold.

But of course the rain and snow will also be tactical factors, since rain reduces the usefulness of missiles and snow causes cavalry to fatigue faster (as well as offering combat bonuses for some type of barbarian troops).

As for moving it to Saturday that scheduling isn't great for me Xav, sorry.

I'll try to be there, with my catch-all username Cornbinks. I've always wanted to see how bad I am compared to actual players.

Hmmm damn. Well, that time is 6am for me. I can play till about 7:30. Say each game takes 20 mins or so to set up and play, I'd be able to play 4 or 5 games. Ok, well I'll see how many people sign up. If it only requires 4 or 5 games to be played, then I will join in.

I won't know what my work schedule will be like until the Thursday before the event but if it's possible I'd love to play.

Sounds awesome, however I might have a track meet that day. So leave me off the list until I can check my schedule.

Okay - I've listed Teo, Stella and Doctor as maybes. With Taruthin and Selifator that brings us to 6 contestants and 3 maybes so far. Good, good.

The deadline is the time and date of the contest itself. And no limit on participants.
