Chrushing defeat

Hi

Having downloaded this mod some time ago. I would like share this defeat with you.

I played as the seleucids. I had an eastern and an western army. The western to deal with the degenerate Ptolemies. They were easily crushed. The eastern army to deal with the hardy Phartians. The Eastern army consisted of the phalanx, one hypapist, many archer units a few cavalry and my general. Noticing with utter contempt the Phartian army which I greatly outnumbered I decided to attack them. The Phartian army consisted of some foot archers, horse archers, one cataphract unit and 3 or 4 generals.

I placed my archer in an phalanxsquare protected from all sides. I marched to the enemy. When I came in fire range my men started dropping like flies. Many died indeed. The archery of Phartians was murderous. I let my own archers fire back. I had some effect but they too were decimated. After a while my army weakened enough for the next move of the enemy. The Phartian Cataphracts and generals charged me. The frontline routed almost immediately causing an complete rout of my army.

So ended the momentous battle in utter defeat of my eastern army. It would take many turns and many setbacks before the Phartians were subdued. Still this battle I remember best. It will always be the best example of total defeat and annihilation of an army of mine.

to resist a charge by four parthian generals you need a very heavy phalanx line indeed. I find Parthians one of the most challenging factions to battle ...

You need a good defeat sometimes to make the game more of challange. You see al your carefully lai plans destroyed and your settlements open to attack. You can kind of get a feel for how it would have felt in real life.
