Oh yes, PotC does count, as its theme will play all the time when i play the Pirate faction.

Btw is there Pirates and Rebels? because i dont think you should be able to play Rebels.

well, not 18th century but Gods and Generals + Gettysburg (american civil war) are good movies, and I watched them to soothe my hunger....

    Also: Good movies.

Besides PotC there are also 2 good films about the pirates: Blackbeard: terror at sea with James Purefoy and Pirates: The true story of Blackbeard with Angus Macfadyen. Both give good insight into famous Blackbeard Edward Teach and there are some nice boarding and battle action http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472242/

Historically correct ones that I know:

    The Last of the Mohicans
    Bondarchuk's Waterloo
Bondarchuk's Voina i Mir (War and Peace)
    Master and Commander
    The Duelists
    The Bounty (1984)
    Hornblower series

With some or full of historical error:

Barry Lyndon (unrealistic battle scenes, nice movie)
The Patriot (really full of hollywood's crap)
The Russian movie about Poltava (terrible, don't remember the title)
Sharpe series (historical setting, not always realistic)

The film is based on the The Luck of Barry Lyndon (1844) by William Makepeace Thackeray. Stanley Kubrick was obsessive about detail, so I would be interested to know what you didn't like about the battle scenes.

Here is a quote from the Barry Lyndon Wiki article.
After 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kubrick made plans for a film about Napoleon Bonaparte. During pre-production, however, Sergei Bondarchuk and Dino De Laurentiis' Waterloo was released and subsequently failed at the box office. As a result, Kubrick's financiers pulled their funding for the film. He was furious, having put considerable time and effort into the development of the Napoleon project. Left with no alternative, he turned his attention to his next film, A Clockwork Orange. Barry Lyndon followed, in part to take advantage of the copious research Kubrick had done for the aborted Napoleon.

Damnit! I forgot Master and Commander... I'm somewhat astonished really, that's one of my favourite films. Guess I wasn't thinking about naval battles.

When Last of the Mohicans is up there (which in all honesty is a work of art) it's hardly worth mentioning the patriot... they really just don't compare. It's too full of patriotism and anti-Britishness for me to stomach. The chaps who played Cornwallis and his second in command were pretty good though. The second made me laugh my arse off when he was ordered to retreat after the battle of Guildford courthouse... too bad it wasn't meant to be funny.

Edit: And though I think I hardly need to mention it, Zulu rocks!

I also recommend the Four Feathers and The Man who would be King (Connery and Caine are great in that one)

+Rep for mentioning such a great film, The Man Who Would Be King may be outside the timeline but its themes are very appropriate to Empire: Total War and it should be watched anyway!

The Sharpe BBC series bad. A series of made-for-tv movies, but not as bad as that sounds. Technically 19th century, but still in the Empire time frame. Honestly, you'll have a lot easier time finding Napeolic stuff than most 18th century stuff.

    There is also
    "Napoléon": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253839/
    "Sovereign´s Servant": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0476695/

Both quite historically correct, especially the russian movie according to imdb: "One of the many period sets was a detailed and historically accurate recreation of a small 18th-century Ukrainian village, which was designed and built from the ground up in a field in the countryside. Other notable full-size, historically accurate sets designed and built for the film were an 18th-century Polish inn and a 22,000 square-foot reproduction of King Louis XIV's Court at Versailles."

Edit: GAH!!! I can´t help myself I know you said no small clips and historically correct but here goes anyway:

IMDB talk bs....perhaps the buildings were accurate i don't know but for the military parts everything from uniforms to fighting tactics were full of faults.

I have said it before, that movie is Russia's answer to the Patriot.

    Just look at this:
    - Gentlemen, we just seized an airfield.
    - That was pretty ninja....
