    Default Aztec Blunder

Three times now I've reached the era where I can get my coniving hands on the carrack that can carry my men west across the ocean to the land of loin-cloth-loving American natives.

However, when I actually start entering parts of the map that are unreachable with any other vessel (the parts where they show up as a big red 'X') something bloody annoying happens.

If I was to save the game then exit - you know, to go to work or to the pub or anything else that pales in comparrison to Medieval 2: Total War - and then re-enter the game and load up my save, I find it loads up nothing more than the main menu. Furthermore, the same goes for any other save that was made after making my voyage to the New World.

So yesterday I resorted to cheating, and created a carrack around turn 30. I stuck an army on it and sent it on its way. Exactly the same thing happens.

The inevetable questions is: Does anyone know why this is happening and how it can be resolved? I've avoided all things Aztec until I've conquered them on the campaign. I've had this game for a year now and not once have I completed it because of this glitch.

    Thanks for any help,

    Dalkur

With cheats it is possible. He said that in his post.
Not sure about having units appear before the world is round event has occured.. maybe this is causing the problem.

Sorry guys, don't get to play on the forum as much as I like which means I put a post on and 'dessert' which doesn't help folks trying to help me - apologies.

Letme clarify, twice now I've tried to play the game like a good sensible boy without cheats. Twice I got to the point where I could build carracks and I sent them to the land of cuddly Aztecs. Unfortunately, Somewhere between the unlocking carracks and actually reaching the Aztecs my game always decides to save the main menu as opposed to any progress I've made on the game. SO for example, imagine I've reached the green and lucious Aztec country and I save and exit the game. I return to my game, click 'Continue Campaign', and / or any other saves I've made between these points, and my game doesn't load. It just returns me to the main menu.

So, on the third time, i decided to use the Shell Console Cheat... thing... and using codes I created a carrack ship at the location of one of my admirals (something *similiar* to 'create_unit "carrack" Geiles 1 1 1 1' - not sure if that's right off the top of my head but something worked at the time and I created an uber ship from seaweed! Sent this west and tried saving when it had reached the Aztecs and the same problem occured.

Regardless, I've only recently downloaded the Custom Campaign 2 toy, so I'm waiting to see if it occurs on that. If not, we don't have a problem. If so, I give up and shall never try to reach the America again

Yes they're there. If you use 'toggle_fow' on the SHELL Console you can see the AMericas far west. They're about alright, but they're disbaled and not upto much. They probably only become truly active when you attack them or at least drop them a Trade Rights agreement or somehting... you know... initial contact.

They are... just use toggle_fow. All those stacks stand there idly until you discover them.

Hmm.. could be file corruption. Try a reinstall and see if that works?

Normally when something like this happens to me - when you click on a saved game and it just turns up on the main menu - I just uninstall the game, and then reinstall. I don't think you need to delete your saved games when it asks you, and when you reinstall it, it should be fine.
