I have today's Yedioth Ahronoth printed version infront of me. In the front page: "What was promised to the Palestinians in a parament agreement". In the article it is revealed what Olmert have promised Abbas [president of the Palestinian Authority] in a parament agreement:
-Jerusalem will be divided into two and the holy sites will be under international supervision.
-Israel will annaxe large chuncks of Settlements [see map of the settlements.] and in return the new Palestinian country will recieve parts of Southern Israel.
-Israel will expell/evecuate 60,000 people [i.e. settlers] from their towns [i.e. settlements].
-Gaza Strip will be connected to the West Bank through a road.
-The Palestinian 'refugees' and refugees will not 'return' or return into Israel.
Since the Israeli elections are in 12 days what Olmert have promised to Abbas does not matter. What will matter is what Abbas have promised to Olmert, and who will be Israel's next Prime Minister. It would probably be Binyamin Netanyahu and the Likud party.
I personally object dividing the city. It is a major danger in means of security, as happened while the city was divided between Jordan and Israel and Jordanian snipers have killed dozens of Israelis who just walked in the Israeli side of the city. And Jersualem is Israel's capital.
I don't see why Israel needs to hand its own recognized territories.
Why wasn't the agreement executed earlier? According to the newspaper, Abbas and Ahmed Qurei have stopped negotiating because of Israel's incoming elections.
I hope the article will be avalible in the internet soon.
And just for those that are interested in Israel's politics, take this test:
