    Default Really enjoying this--one question

Hi! I've just begun playing SPQR a few days ago and am several hours short on sleep as a result. It's a real hoot!

I do have one problem however. I'm about four years into my Roman campaign and I'm still receiving incessant northern invasions from the Gauls. Stack after stack they throw at me, and I demolish them all with the most basic of troops (TW, Hastati, missile troops, Equites, etc). It really is becoming an annoyance to have the same old boring battles turn after turn against the same enemy on the same ground. I've requested peace on numerous occasions and been flat out rejected each and every time--even when I offer "financial incentives." Does anyone know how I can get the buggers to learn their lesson and stop attacking? And why is it that NO ONE will accept my peace terms even when I offer immense sums of money on the side?

I apologize if it sounds like I'm ranting. Thank you all for your time.

Diplomacy doesn't work well. Only things I've gotten through is sharing map information.
I suggest you look into the forced diplomacy thread and the FAQ. Used responsibly, it is a decent substitute for actual diplomacy.
About the Gauls, yeah they will keep coming alright. I've fought them at the northern boarder nearly every turn since campaign start, and I'm at year 178bc, script on! (About 150 turns).
You have two choices here... either establish a firm boarder, and keep getting these fights, or expand. You can weaken the Gauls considerably by taking Darantasia in particular, but this will make the Germanians attack you, and they behave pretty much the same as Gauls, just a little tougher.
My mind is a bit clouded of sleepdeprivation atm, I hope something made sence
    Off to bed...

Bed? Sounds nice, unfortunantly I have a dozen stacks of Gauls to decimate before I can catch a wink. Oh well, I'll try forced diplo and see if they'll keep the peace.

They will not stop coming. There is a uploaded file - Forced Diplomacy, which can give you a few turn relieve before they attack again. You can find it in FAQ thread, believe post 4 or 5

Yep gaul and carthage are set to expand, you can use force diplomacy but it wont work, the other nations wont bother you, they use the superfaction settings to advoid this, they will just defend. Gaul has to be invaded simple, or you will defend stack after stack in the alps.

Well, Biggbudd is not right that it will not work. In matter of fact it will not, as the peace you can set will not last forever, in fact it will last very short time. But by repeating the procedure in forced diplomacy, you can keep the peace for long time. Or go abuse the mechanics, conquers the bordering cities and give them to Roman rebels. And there you go with peace.

Try to take some of there cities, take Medeolanum and nicea you will notice there assault will slow down. Don t take Patavium or Darantasia because this will trigger the germans and we don' t want that to happen.

I even think if you use forced diplomacy on dacia you will get problems later on when you want to attack them. You will likely get a message that tells you you will need the peoples support or some thing like that.

    Thanks for the tips all.

One more (small) issue: The Senate attacks me whenever march through their lands, which is odd considering that we have military access and I am supposed to be protecting the sorry bastards.

this is meant to represent the Rubicon which was a point past which it was considered war on Rome itself - even Ceaser respected this and waited on the line whilst making his demands to be given a triumph by the senate

    @cnaeus
i think he means if you just went for the senate from the start
ie i'm way off getting marian yet but i've got 5 legions that i've just used to start invading iberia....but what if instead i'd just gone for rome
althought i may be wrong cause he does mention imperial legions

I wonder what would happen, if you just take everything you can get and take Rome. I mean with all the legions it might be very possible, what then? Jump straight to imperials?

I meant. You stay in Senate lands, they attack you. Well, what if you on purpose bring like 10-12 premarian legions, mercenaries, whatever you can muster, defeat them and then capture Rome? I mean taking Rome is part of getting the imperial legions. So I wonder, what can happen if you take it earlier.
