HeyAll,
Anyone here up for MP courses at the TWC Unversity? If Modding can have both "Normal" tutorials and Classes, I think MP can have the "Tutorials" and Guides like we have now AND classes also.
Thoughts?

What? Teach players how to play MP at the University? I doubt it. Multiplayer isn't a thing that can really be "taught". Sure you can learn the basics of fighting opponents, good strategies, creating good armies, but all of that you can learn and improve on by experience and trial and error anyway. That's the real teacher of MP: experience. I don't think the university tutorials are such a good idea.
I agree with Xavier. Plenty of fancy tactics can be taught that might look good on paper, but nothing will help one learn better than actually experiencing the battle and matching wits with another human. As for the basics of MP, there are plenty of guides floating around about that. It's a good idea, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it would be worth the effort.

Warman I think really the best way to each new players skills is far them to join a clan, Here they will learn lots of the best armies to play with in MP and get taught by most of the best players using lots of different strategies. Also in clan's like mine you will get an personal insturctor to teach you the basics up to a higher standard
Argeed. How many people though, newer players, can join a clan like GOTW (like I just did) or Sith (like your in) or Arcani or TAOW or so on? Even for Sith you have to be so good to join, regardless if you get a insturctor or not.
We could have the "written" test here, and have in-game tests also, so they may not be Magyar Khan style players at the end of the day, but they will be good enough that they could join other clans.

I think the abundance of YouTube commentaries serve as great teaching tools. I learned how to play merely from watching them and I'm sure others are the same way. I'd suggest making a sticky with links to all the commentator's YouTube pages. Plus I think it would be helpful if there was some kind of topic where everyone posted their favorite armies for different factions at 10k, 15k, etc, just so we can have a kind of database for them. I think those two things would be all a new player would need.
Several of those threads are here, you'll have to dig around a bit but you can find them. Though making stickies of those is easier.

Well i have watched lots of those videos on Youtube and to be honest most of the battles would never happen on MP so i think they are not very helpful to new players you cannot beat tuition from a player with great knowledge on skype or teamspeak showing you the different tactics to deploy agaisnt differnt factions
I joined Sith after 2 weeks of Rome Total War.
A experienced player can recognize a talented player and he can recruit him.
The point is that there is no better way to learn and train your MP abilities than joining a good clan.
Agreed Teo you are a fine example what a good clan can do far new players on RTW or other TW games
I joined the Clan to learn. I learned there in a week more than I would have learned in 2 months.
If you get a good "professor" you will be a good player.
Also you will get new friends (as far as it is posssible via internet) and as FK said you have a better infrastructure (like teamspeak) to enjoy teambattles. Beeing in a clan doesnt restrict you of doing what you have done before but allows you so much more. If there wouldnt be benefits there wouldn`t be clans.

The classes could be a cool idea. My question is: are the people who would most benefit likely to sign up? RTW is an older game, and I would guess most people on TWC are comfortable replaying campaigns, modding, or they are already involved in multiplayer. There's always the chance of picking up stray lurkers, though, so it can only help really.
I had a thought on this. I seem to remember a Princeofmacedon video where he played against a new player looking for advice; his entire commentary was filled with things which the player should be doing- keeping troops together, neglecting upgrades, whatever. Maybe a thread where people sign up for a time, play a match, and get a commentary video placed on youtube that they can learn from?
As for clans- meh. They suit some peoples play and can be a great step up in competetive games- especially if they can pick up and teach new people. BUT its enough of a pain getting people to sign up for TWC tournaments without the population bleeding off to other forums, so I say boo/hiss.
