I've seen a of series already (and need to see a more seasons of some favorites) but I need something fresh to alternate with. (The ones I've still got episodes to watch: Sopranos, The Wire, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica,... are too similar in style or in content and I'm getting an overdose)

So has anything really worthwile, preferably really funny or really intriguingly mysterious, come out the last, say, two years that's not so 'heavy'?
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

    Have you seen ReGenesis already?
It had gone rather unnoticed, as far as I could tell.
    Undeservedly so.

Lovable characters, intriguing topic, cool atmosphere.

Monk is a good series. The first seasons are older than two years but it's still running so I think it fits. The same is true of Psych, another good detective series with some comedy.

That 70s Show is also great for comedy, and the good news is that you should be able to get all of the seasons so you don't miss that continuity of a show still being broadcast(it stopped broadcasting 2 years ago new episodes, though replays are still frequent). "The Complete Series Stash Box" containing all 8 seasons with bonus features came out just last year. I'd say there's at least one side-splitting joke per episode, in general, and lots of lulz throughout.

    House MD. Nuff said.

No seriously. I'm not for doctor-medical shows, but This series is just awesome. Hugh Laurie's bitter sarcasm alone is a good reason to at least try an episode

I offer another title: Dexter. I say this because from the list of series you've already given I get the sense that you like programmes which take the approach of having a long, over-arching storyline that covers each season, or even the whole of the show itself. Dexter is like that - 3 seasons so far and each one has been built around a separate overarching story gradually revealed. And what other television series has ever managed to made a psychopathic serial killer a sympathetic protagonist? Sure, he mostly only kills bad people - but it's his motives at issue, and he doesn't give a damn about justice - he just enjoys killing.

Pushing Daisies might be the kind of thing you're looking for - it's light-hearted and quirky. It's more picaresque than the others though - though that might be what you want here, to counter-balance the other kind of programme.

I will agree with Sorkenlol about Nip/Tuck - it was powerful stuff for the first 3 seasons. I wouldn't bother with Seasons 4 or 5, though - it got embarrassing, it was so bad. Shark - jumped. The suicide scene from the first season has popped up in my mind's eye every few days ever since I saw it.

You didn't mention Lost in your list, so I will bring that one up. I burned through that series 4 or 5 episodes a day, every day, I was so hooked.

Others in case you haven't seen them -

    Rome (the HBO series).
    Firefly.
    Heroes.
    Generation Kill.

Excellent taste, by the way - I am a major fan of The Wire and the re-imagined BSG. I was so obsessed with The Wire when I first discovered it, it wasn't 4 or 5 episodes a day, it was more like 7 or 8. In fact, I watched the whole of the first season over-night, starting in the evening and finishing at 11.00 a.m. the next morning. I just couldn't stop.
