    Default True Historical Gameplay??

I have a feeling this would take an emense amount of researching and scipting...(which I have no problem helping if enough people like the idea) but what about a truly historic game where all the war and alliances are modding for the exact historical time....this way you can really play the history of the roman empire..

I have tried to do this myself...(with house rules) but sometimes things don't work out. For example...I want to simulate the first punic war...well after I take all the historical provinces Carthage won't agree to a peace agreement...So I am forced to sit back and let them harrass me or go into africa and start an offencive.

I am not a very experienced modder but I know something like this would be a lot of work....Has anyone attempted this? It seems like we could use the same format as vanallia RTW when the 3 familes could not declar war until one was strong enough to take power....Also it would be nice to add this civil war aspect to a mod like this

You could always use the force diplomacy cheat. IIRC, the Extended Realism mod has it within the files, you just need to activate it.

Diplomacy, farther than the forced diplomacy already in ExRM, is impossible to mod. Its a very broken feature in RTW.

Agreed. We've done just about all we can with it, and are now down to the map tweaks to try to direct AI aggression. As you can imagine, that's more an art than a science, so results are iffy.

Besides, playing historically would mean that as the gauls, you would never be able to win.
If there was no random element, it wouldnt be a game, but more like a film.

While I aplaud anyone wishing to play this way with house rules an such like, surely the idea is to become your own champion of the game. In a way, the player is actually playing against the modder. The modder tries to make the game as challanging and realistic as he can, the player is trying to defeat the modders challenges.

If you crush their armies, and make sure you dont have any connected territories, you should be fine. Make sure to not play on VH because the AI will never agree with you, its sole purpose is to kill you. But the only faction that can really play historically is Rome. Every other faction remained more or less stagnant during the time period, with Rome rolling them over one by one.
