Windows. I have Ubuntu on my laptop, and finding compatible software/hardware for it is nothing short of a nightmare.

Yes, that was serious. I thought Linux was something like Mac or Microsoft, you know a computer or something.

Not without violating its license agreement, as far as I know.

That comment slightly agitates me but you are entitled to your opinion. There is plenty of software alternatives that are better than Windows apps, and a lot of windows apps you can get working via wine no problem (such as Xfire).

I use Linux unless I'm testing Windows or IE7/8, or otherwise really need to use Windows. I wouldn't recommend Linux to serious gamers unless you like doing a lot of tinkering to get games to work, and don't mind not being able to play some random percentage of games. (Bioshock still doesn't work on Linux beyond the first level or so, for instance.)

For other purposes, Linux is at least worth a try, if you're at all adventurous with computers. You can get Ubuntu (the most popular desktop variety of Linux) for free by, for instance, clicking this shiny button:

Then all you have to do is burn a CD, put it in the drive, and reboot. You can use it without hurting your computer by booting off the CD, although it will be relatively slow (since CDs are slower than disks). Or you can install it next to Windows and choose which you want every time you start up. Or you can install it in Windows like a regular program, and uninstall it if you get tired of it.

Linux can be installed on basically anything. You can install some version of Linux on PCs, Macs (Intel or PowerPC), mainframes, supercomputers, cell phones (including the iPhone), video game consoles (including PS3, XBox, Wii, ...), PDAs, DVRs, and more or less any other electronic device that includes a CPU and a decent amount of memory. Linux has been installed on some wristwatches.

Of course, you can't necessarily get a pretty screen and whatnot on a lot of these things. But the kernel will run on them.
