With all the talk about Obama, although he has yet to do anything good or bad, it is easy to forget about the world and the fact that it too is suffering from the bad economy. It should also be a red flag that **** has just hit the fan.

The IEF is probably only a temporary solution. The question is whether the European National Bank could at all accept an entry of Iceland into the currency. I ask me if not a solution could be found in cooperation between European Economic Area and European Free Trade Association. Iceland is member afaik of both organizations.

good, the guy was retarded anyway. he was advocating dropping alliances and decent relationships with the entire western hemisphere in favour of working with Russia instead.

even the russians were like..wtf and loled at him.

all because the rest of us havent helped iceland out of its problem - if the guy didnt realise, the rest of us have problems too...

I have a hunch that a lot of this whole global economy recession has to do with some surreptitious messing around on the part of the World Bank...

This problem is just pure Bull S... i live in Iceland, and the country is not in bankrupt, if you see most of the people making the report are from the UK or some one affected by the Icesafe issue, trying to put a bad influence in the Icelandic Government, due to the last public expresion of mister Prime that the debts are not Iceland Government´s busyness and that they will not pay to the Icesafe cstomers nor to the UK.
Also this are from last October, a small country recovers it self much quicker than any other entity, so focus in more up to date News.
The people is fighting for a new government, the commerce and banking minister, Bjorgvin Sigurdsson has resigned yesterday and there will be a new votasion in march so things are quite different now, the euro and the dollar has drop very much and the Kronar is coming back, but this doesn´t mean that Iceland is recovering from it, but is not Bankrupt.

Isn't this old news? this was pretty big in swedish media when it happened. Some Scandinavian monetary support was supposed to be sent to Iceland but I don't know what happened with that.
@dragonsign: At last? Haven't there been a lot of protests demanding this since the crisis started?

Yeah the only one who came to help us was the Norwegians i don´t know about the Swedish government, some one from Holland also came due to the Icesafe issue.

There has been a lot going on ever since and it was just getting worse every day. It was gonna happen any time soon any ways.

Yeah, our current government isn't so much into helping people.
But the swedish economy is rather unstable right now, a lot of people is losing their jobs, that might also be the reason the help is not coming.

I think most countries economy is shaky at best these days.
I'm a swede working in Denmark and I got fired because this mess.
And I'm not the only one, where I work the other stores are declaring bankruptcy and closing one by one.
The only ones still walking around with a smile on their face is the executives.

"The International Monetary Fund has finally approved its own financial package for Iceland. This means Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway are now ready to implement their joint assistance to Iceland.
Within the IMF framework the four Nordic countries have worked closely together and have jointly decided to supplement the IMF financing of USD 2.1 billion with additional loans amounting to USD 2.5 billion.
In a joint sstatement, the four Nordic countries underline that the banking crisis in Iceland is of unprecedented proportions and has serious implications for the country's economy.
    - The work of implementing the IMF programme will not be easy, but given appropriate measures we believe there is good basis for rebalancing the economy. We stand ready to assist Iceland in the spirit of continous Nordic cooperation, the statement from the four Nordic countries ends."

"This century, like a golden age, has restored to light the liberal arts, which were almost extinct: grammar, poetry, rhetoric, painting, sculpture, architecture, music...this century appears to have perfected astrology."

Hmm...Norway and Denmark loaned both 7 billion kroners. Sweden less. Correct me if I am wrong...

Except like Norway and Saudi Arabia, the next two superpowers of the world wrecked by economical crisies. A truly, horrible, horrible thought.

Jokes aside, how's the Norweigian economy? is the oil keeping it going?

I believe numbers a month or two ago showed that Norway was suffering the least from the crisis. But don't quote me on that as I don't recall where I heard it exactly.
I have approximate answers and possible beliefs, and different degrees of certainty about different things, but I’m not absolutely sure of anything, and many things I don’t know anything about. But I don’t have to know an answer. I don’t feel frightened by not knowing.

Apparently we'll have 100,000 unemployed by the end of the year, mostly industrial. Not good for my town because the industry is sort of keeping us afloat... Everyone at the factory works half the time they used too. Not good.

100,000 is 1/44 of Norways whole population. So it's quite a lot.

Didn´t Norway lose a huge chunk of the oil fund at one of the big bank crashes in the US?
