    Default Confidence in what?

I was mostly wanting to see the reaction of people to this topic. I have tried to prove the existence of God as the Christian religion describes him to myself but the part that gets to me the most is the point at which this "unquestionable faith" religion got started.

It seemed to me like there was someone who didn't really like the rules the other religions set up so he or she decided to start their own. So a big book was written and that's all it took for everyone to start conforming to the apparent religious trend and applying their blind faith to a God that decides either to love or damn everyone according to what that person has written. I just see a huge hole in that and based on the mentality of society back then, I can see very clearly how it could happen.

People where searching for hope and that's what that person gave them with their book. Even though I don't believe any of it is true I have no doubt that it has saved many lives, established a strong moral awareness in society, and given many people peace in their lives. The only thing is it's peace that comes out of ignorance... but ignorance is bliss. If that is what makes you happy then that's how you should live... at least until it catches back up with you....
People are in the habit of believing God has their back and that keeps their reflexes to life slow. It gives them confidence to turn their back on a problem and think "God loves me, wouldn't let this happen" or "since my faith is so strong god will protect me". The religion gives a kind of confidence to people, like you could walk through fire and your faith will shield you... but it's a lie and you will get burned, that's the plain and simple truth I wish people would realize. Fear can always be overcome with confidence but that's the wrong kind of confidence to combat it with. I prefer to earn my own confidence instead of depending on an invisible beings' protection, personally. If I'm afraid I will be beat up by the kids in school, I will do more chin ups and learn to fight, If I'm afraid I'll fall from a tight rope then I will keep working on my balance. There is nothing that can't be earn which can help you concur your fear because you have confidence in your own abilities and that you will avoid it. Anything you practice you will get better at doing and for any fear that you may have, confidence can be earned. I can honestly say that I fear nothing.

the bible does not equal the Christian faith. while it is true that ignorance is bliss there are plenty of people who have no faith yet remain ignorant. perception is reality, if these people believe God is with them, and its helps them get through the day, then who are you to say it doesnt work.

No one and I would not be one to tell them to stop doing something that makes them happy, I would just expect that they would ascend from that point and realize that all the questions are not yet answered but can be answered with an open mind.

As I see it, a person starts out ignorent but slowly starts to familiarize themself with the world. Then they become enlightened with morals inspired from religion and they begin to compare the world to their own morals. As they get better at comparing the two they might notice the technicalities which come from their observations and might just start to question "Why" but then catch themselves and think it better to leave the question alone. But as the technicalities begin to stack up that "why" question gets louder and louder until it cannot be ignored. This is the point that I would like to see more people get to; striving to seek the answers that only a free thinking mind can access. And yes they can be accessed no matter how difficult that "why" question is, an answer will fallow if you can give it enough time to brew in your head. Like a fine wine, the answer becomes so much sweeter in time and the knowledge that you have earned it yourself is what makes you grow from the exprience.

you are right in the sense that no one religion is true. and the fact that the bible was not written by Jesus, makes it imperfect. the bible alone is a good source for moral values. but the "why" questions you speak of usually have to do with the nature of Jesus or God, which the bible doesn't delve into much. it is perfectly acceptable for any person to follow their faith and still how their ideas about what kind of role God plays in the universe.

I'm not trying to say it's not acceptable mostly because my opinion shouldn't matter in that issue. I only wish that people would strive for a higher understanding of the world and themselves. We might actually be able to overcome all the crap that is going on today in the US if people could think of better ways to help fix it instead of making home made Jack-ass films to keep themselves entertained.

im sorry if you thought i was insulting you. again you are right. people shouldn't just accept that their religion has the answer for everything. unfortunately humans by nature are ignorant and the vast majority of people today will not make an attempt to further their understanding of our world. but i do have hope that this will change over time.

Over the short 20 years I have been alive I have seen many changes with people and the world already and this is what gives me hope in that. The thing is that I feel someone would need help show them the way if they are to fully understand. Just a hint as to what the right path to take might be... but people usually react to new harshly... then again, that change I was talking about might be what will help.

You didn't insult me and I'm sorry if I made the impression that I thought you did with my post. I'm more just frustrated with society.
