Default Have you ever convinced someone?

    Well have you?

I am creating this thread for one reason, as many threads are created i have a question.

Have any of you ever convinced someone you where right? Now i don't mean on a factual thing like you convinced some that WW2 ended in 1945 no i mean, have you ever changed someones opinon.

Have you ever convinced someone like they where islamic and you where christian and you managed to make them think that there bliefs where completly wrong and yours where completly right and they immediatly changed there beliefsto yours.

    Have you ever done this?

I know i havn't, but if you have please share.

I wanna lie, lie to myself, myself and someone else. Cause it’s the lying that hurts, and it’s the hurt that lets me know I’m alive.”

I doubt you'll get anyone to answer yes to this tbh. What you're talking about isn't "being right". It's converting people to your faith. I doubt anyone here has ever converted anyone.
I have approximate answers and possible beliefs, and different degrees of certainty about different things, but I’m not absolutely sure of anything, and many things I don’t know anything about. But I don’t have to know an answer. I don’t feel frightened by not knowing.

Evangelists would be out of a job if they couldn't do that...

I have convinced people to convert to other faiths, like christians to buddhists, but never to mine, mostly because I can barely explain mine.

I sort of convinced an orthodox christian about god, religion, etc. He ended up being an atheist like me. I don`t know how I succeded since it took only 5 minutes and then he started looking at me for a few moments and then he said, your probably right. Maybe it`s important to note that he wasn`t a fully convinced christian altough he did go to church from time to time and on special occasions and he was 2 or 3 years smaller than me (i`m 18). What`s strange about it is that i didn`t have to sweat or stress my beliefs to him to convince him.

I don't think I have ever done so, I have made people question their beliefs but never really give them up (as far as I know).

well... I had an atheist class mate in 8th grade, and we'd always debate against him in religion class (yeah... Romanian children are being indoctrinated at school in the spirit of christianity)

anyway... I used to try and convince him that he was wrong, since we were friends, and would talk after school as well, and, the funny thing is... I've managed to get myself deconverted while trying to convince him. Now... I know it's different from what you asked, but I thought it was funny.

The only time I've managed to change someone's mind was with a rather misogynist friend of mine who has stopped being misogynist. He had all those silly ideas that females should not be excused for things men are excused for, for instance.

A few people. I'm not sure if I was the 'sole' reason, but many have claimed that my arguments played a role in them changing their way of thinking. Who here hasn't been heavily influenced by posters/people around them?
    1) The creation of the world is the most marvelous achievement imaginable.
    2) The merit of an achievement is the product of (a) its intrinsic quality, and (b) the ability of its creator.
    3) The greater the disability (or handicap) of the creator, the more impressive the achievement.
    4) The most formidable handicap for a creator would be non-existence.
    5) Therefore if we suppose that the universe is the product of an existent creator we can conceive a greater being — namely, one who created everything while not existing.
    6) Therefore, God does not exist.

Nah. But, then again, I haven't tried. What business is it of mine if someone believes differently than I do? It's not like my religion is or even claims to be the only valid one. If we're talking about religious standpoints.

Well now that i think about, i had a friend that i convinced to be christian but he really didn't belive anything at the time so it was kinda easy. I guess that just being around him for a while he kinda picked up on my beliefs.

    Hippolord,

For most of my working life I had to persuade people that worked under me that my way was the right way. I used to say that I am right when I am right and even if I was wrong I'd still be right, simply because as boss the buck stopped with me.

Not so now. Since becoming a Christian I have learned that I can persuade none. At best I can share what God has done for me in my own life and tell that that is possible for any who seek. But here is the crux, only God can change people and it is not by persuasion. He leaves that for the religious.

He changes people by revealing His Son to them, convincing by conviction them at the same time, that they have no strength to resist, and, when the moment and conditions are right, in fractions of a moment the old nature is replaced by a new one. And that is it. Them that were not born again before now are, authenticated by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter promised so that all they think of, all they see, is Jesus Christ their Saviour.

The power of God, mark that, the power of God, to save is the Gospel by hearing, that is the inward man being prompted by the Holy Ghost of this Gospel, but fair warning to them having been prompted that they should deny the Spirit's action. This is the unforgiveable sin. It is the primary duty of all born again beings to keep the Gospel alive by their sharing it with others.

I think this a very good belief and i never try to directly convince people. I guess my personality and presense just makes them want to be christian lol beats me.

I think I managed to get some people to question why they believe whatever they believe in, but a direct conversion to XYZ? No, that's silly, people don't work that quickly.

I suppose some weak minded people who arent completly solid in their beliefs might work that way. idk

I have influenced people to think differently, but in any subject related to personal religion, no, I haven't made any theists say definitely that they don't think God exists.

That being said, there have been several occasions in which I have pointed out inconsistencies within the bible or a certain dogmatic teaching and people have reacted not defensively, but rather in a comprehending way.

A lot of people need only look up at the stars at night to know God's real and have their faith bolstered. You can't talk someone into believing/not believing.

I belive that it is very possible to convert people to and from a religion i mean after all how do you emplain the early conversions of christainity and islam. Saint peter claimed to have converted 120,000 people to christianity. Am im sure mohamed converted his fair share of people to islam. You people like Abu bakr for instance who was a an arabic polytheist.
