cannot start SS!

I hate this week...

As some might have noticed I have had many problems with the game this here week...

today I gave up on my CTD and re-installed the game from scratch... had major problems re-installing due to registries and other seemingly corrupt data... but at last... the game is re-installed!

the problem now is it doesn´t work... I get an error message when I try to start SS stating that I don´t have the correct disc in my ROM, wich I do... I can start Vanilla without any probs, both from the DVD-launcher and from the computer... but SS just gets the same annoying message....

I KNOW that I have read something about this issue somewhere here, but after an hour of searching I have found nothing on the subject...

following specs: Vista, Vanilla (no patches), Kingdoms (1.5 patch) SS 6.0, SS 6.1, Crimson, Agent skins, Battle/Campaign AI, Permanent forts

someone that have an idea?

EDIT: yes... it´s a legal copy of the game... it´s the GOLD edition

Do a seach in the SS forums for the Gold Edition. Might turn up something useful as I know other people have talked about SS and that edition of M2TW.

I actually did that for an hour or two before posting this... couldn´t find anything regarding this specific problem... I should have stated this in the beginning of the thread mayahps...

Something I would have greatly liked is a sticky that the most common problems is taken into consideration and for every knew one you can add them in that thread... this because it seems that it´s very hard to find a single specific thread here when over 80 per cent uses the wrong title for their thread...

aw... well... still need help though....

all right... I re-installed now and did a failsearch...

first off... I can´t install vanilla from the DVD... it tries to install kingdoms despite the fact that vanilla isn´t installed...

I "force" the vanilla installation by exploring the DVD and klick on setup in the folders where it is located... after that I install kingdoms and the 1.5 patch... vanilla works fine... but when I try to start a Kingdoms game it says "Wrong CD/DVD in ROM" or something similar (it´s in swedish so I can´t translate it exactly to english)...

the problem is that the bloody DVD IS in the rom!

I recently tried to delete ALL the SEGA files (and registry entries) but to no avail...

I have again searched the Kingdoms forum for help, but apparently I use the wrong key words or everyone uses totally irrelevant titles...

I know that I´m being obnoxious, but it´s been almost two weeks now and I have tried installing, re-installing, uninstalling, spitting over my shoulder (sorry for the couch honey), yelling at the monitor... no avail...

so it seems it is NOT a SS problem but a kingdom one... but I hope it´s okay if I keep this thread alive instead of starting a new thread again....

That really sucks mate. Have you tried posting in the official Total War forums?

Well considering that 90% of people don't even try to find previous posts before posting their problems (and I thank you for doing so!), I doubt they'd read that thread anyway

I actually looked in the kingdoms forum without finding a thread dedicated to bugs... but then again, I might have misunderstood it´s structure...

well... I post the request there and post here when (IF) I get an answer... that way maybe someone else might be helped by this....

off to the TW-forums then....

Hi all,

I am having a problem sort of similar to him, but a bit different.

I have just bought ME2 TW gold, to replace my old ME 2 with out the expansion. I bought it online off Amazon and am thinking it is either the US or EU version (back wording is in English and I THINK German).

I installed it, and got patch 1.5 All seemed to go well (though patch 1.5 had errors patching the 4 new campaigns like Americas,Crusades etc.). Anyways after that I downloaded and installed SS 6.3 and 6.4. All seemed to go well till I tried playing SS and it said:

"Wrong disc inserted. Please insert the original Kingdoms CD/DVD. Please have a look at securom.com for more "help".

What is weird is that the regular medieval 2 Gold (with out the mods) seems to work fine. But SS will not launch. Also the gold edition does NOT have a separate Kingdoms CD/DVD to place to run the game.

I have windows xp btw.

Just found something else out. The Americas, Britannia, etc. campaigns give me the same errors.

One more thing, I am thinking I might have downloaded the patch for the wrong country. Since I bought this game from Amazon I have no idea which countries patch I should get. Is there someway to find out if I need the UK, US, EU, or German patch for this game? Does it say it somewhere?

You most likely used the wrong 1.5 patch like Xerxesjc28

I have the same problem too!
I have Win7 64bit and Medieval 2 Gold Ed/original/ , and I try to install SS 6.3 and 6.4 but the disk díd not start!!!
Wrong disc inserted

Should I reinstall the whole game again?And in what sequence, provided that I have the Gold Edition?

The game was bought from Thailand/Ebay/ but is English version. Now I reinstall it and i'll put the UK version for the Gold Edition ... I hope that solved the problem.
