Default Need some advice on research to a (Hopefully) upcomming AAR.

I had this idea that I would try and write myself an AAR using the DLV mod as the French faction. Now, I decided that I wanted it to be as historical as possible.

With this I do not mean that I would recreate history, rather use existing history in 1180 to shape a sort of pseudo-history. With this I mean that events that had taken place in 1180 would determine the "basis" for routes of expansion etc. But how the AAR progresses would be more determined by the AI and chance.

Now, I would like to know if any of you have any tips on how one could research the political climate of 1180 (In Europe, mostly) between the different royal houses etc. Mainly French relations etc. Where did the house of Capet had claims, for example, etc.

Also, what would make up the "French identity" of that time. (I know this is hard, since there really wasn't any, from what I have understood). Things like "national" heroes, saints, important figures etc.? Important noble-families would also be cool.

Tips could be anything from books to webb-pages, anything will do! Looking forward to get some advice.

Just go from there and explore.

[..] you seem to like fantasy then. Also you are not much TOLERANT to put that in middle words.

    Thank you all!

Well, I've already looked at Wikipedia and was looking for some more in-depth information. Such as, which saints/historical figures would a french nobleman perhaps mention in, say, a pre-battle speech? All the different names and variations of "God", "Jesus Christ" and "Virgin Mother Mary" are all good in the context, but are there any more? (This is just an example)

I would, for example, want to find out more about the way battles were fought, tactics, troop-types etc. Wikipedia is good, but it's more groundlaying than in-depth, in my opinion.

I would also suggest that if you are going to do a historical run AAR, you should try out Harry Lime's DLV Europa. If you can get it to work that is, as a few have had some problems doing so.

@ Bacus - Yes, that was what I was thinking about. But if anyone had any good title in their head it would reduce alot of work for me, and it probably wouldn't be too hard just writing it

@ Gaias - I will look into that one! 6.0 compatible? If it is then I am definately hooked. I am not a big fan of America anyway.

yes, you definetly remind me of me. The best move i can suggest you, although is a very "extensive one" (regarding what you want to do), is to go to the local university/high school/learning facility and ask the history professor. Of course, the higher the degree the facility gives the better informed will be the teacher. Therefore, i suggest universities first.

More over you could check out for history courses if you are a history junkie like me . Or go the hard way and cram yourself with medieval books. -which i find to be a lot of fun!-

Europa isn't DLV 6.0 compatible, it's a stand-alone mod. If you're going to stick with DLV 6.0 you might like to use my weapon upgrade removal mod and the latest battle ballance update. You'll find them in the minimods section.
