    Default Most fun campaign?

Hi guys, i'm going through A phase of gameplay where its getting old,
for some reason everytime I play kingdoms I come crawling back to the origional M2tw. Either way it gets old

What was A fun campaign for you? and how.....I just want maybe A tad of inspiration to get me going. My favorite thing guys is fighting the Aztecs in the new world with sucky factions because you can regroup in Cuba or Florida and theres so many of them. ...

Hehe. Yes Olaf the Aztecs are sooo many although their troops suck. But retreating to Cuba( I believe its called Caribbean) does help especially if you turn it into a castle.

Well anyway I know what you mean with the gameplay getting old so i recommend trying a campaign as Russia or the Moors. I've played with everyone but these two remain my favorites because their army compositions are very unlike other factions (the Moors lack solid infantry which makes the game tricky and the russians have by far the most powerful archer army in late period: Kazacks for Horse Archers, Dvors as Heavy Cavalry and Heavy Archers, Dismounted Dvor as heavy infantry/heavy archers, spearmen and cossack gunners. Except for your spearmen everyone else has a bow. You literally obliterate 25-30% of the enemy forces before direct engagement. Whoever claims they can beat Russia with a traditional english archer army ... bring it on . You simply dont stand a chance when about 12 units in your army are archers and are also solid in direct battle.

The only problem with the Russians is that the game is diplomatically lazy as you are soooo far away from everyone else that there will hardly be any honored alliances. Also, you will have a fun time defending against the Mongols/Timurids if they decide to go north which is often the case if you play on a harder difficulty.

    Anyway... long post.... phew...

In my experience the game gets interesting again when you use diplomacy really well (don't trade with enemies of your allies for example and you will see an increase in your reliability). What usually ruins the game is a bunch of warmongers wrecking havoc in everyone's diplomacy scrolls... meh. These nations are usually Sicily, Milan, Moors and Denmark. They love to betray other people for some reason, although their weak starting positions make this pretty understandable. So it's often interesting to understand the warmonger. A lot of times he just wants a certain province really badly or just wants to be able to move troops through there so signing a mutual military passage rights treaty might prevent him from attacking you. Also try to help your allies when they are at war with someone else, not only by supporting him in war but by giving him small money gifts. Once your relationship with allies becomes strong and you are perceived as reliable you will generally be able to ask them to assist you by attacking someone, etc.
Also, if you choose to play catholics build up greater churches and spawn the next cardinal college by yourself. It's cool to win every election and have the pope excommunicate your enemies.

I could play the English forever and they are not my favorite faction. I tend to role play and this widens the play value by giving me self imposed limitations and to allow a change from game to game or even from king to king within the game. A series of strong authority leaders followed be a weak authority leader has all sorts of potential. A series of high chivallrous kings followed by a dark, demonic, and high dread leader will change the game completely.

I need to buy Kingdoms - the Britannia campaign is calling me. The prospect of finally, for the first time, being able to properly roleplay as my own country (Ireland) is simply too much to resist. The very idea of kicking those bloody Normons off the Emerald Isle sounds immensely fun, and I havn't even played it yet!

I cannot be deterred. In the Britannia campaign Derry is on the map, my own city, and for once it's not called "Londonderry"!

Bit of an arcane point I realise, but I simply have to play it. I'm going to trade in that crappy NeverWinter Nights 2 to get it.

Well Kingdoms is good for another reason -- I prefer to use the Retrofit Mod. For me, it is the final patch on vanilla. The Britannia and related mods in Kingdoms are fun diversions. They are not as big an undertaking as the long campaign games that you have been playing. You will not be disappointed.

Hmm I agree with Viking Prince try to role play, make more of a history or story out of your game as well, even try making an AAR. and I agree with you Claudius those Danes wont say the word peace if they were being tortured. every western European fation i play (haven't played eastern yet like the Byz and Russia or hungary or poland) they end up going full house at you, if you are on the main land you know they are comming.

As I am also in a slump about playing M2TW, I lack inspiration oftenly and stop playing for like a month or two and need to spice things up, care to explain please what you mean, and what's an AAR?
    Thanks.
Oh, and the funnest campaign I've had is also the hardest I've played, the Holy Roman Empire. By far.

AAR are after after action reports, its kinda like a story based on your campaign. you make up a story and stuff and mkae your generals actual people from different perspetives and stuff it could be corky to like this one http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=189367

and what i mean by role play is aim your generals with goals, make one leader a saint chivalric and loyal or make another a leader with an Iron grip, aim him to become dreadful with huge authority. could aim to become the most religious nation, the most economically strong nation or something like that, make goals for you to accomplish that relates to actual history. Don't look at winning the game just look at making an actual nation the deals with issues and such, M2:TW actually has so much ability in it to make it the game you want, all you need is imagination

Oh I see what you mean, I did that with Denmark, I became an economical power (Via trading), and to my surprise, because of that, no one attacked me! The AI must consider the income coming from me as a variable in whether to attack me or not, England, Scotland, Russia, Poland and HRE left me alone completely, I attacked Poland later, but still! I had 27000 per turn from trading, and it was really fun, however also got boring as I dislike how far away the Danes are from everything. Sending spies and assassins all over the globe is much less fun when it takes them 15 turns to get to their destination. Thanks.

In my current campaign as England I have migrated to the Holy Land, giving my starting settlements to Poland (). Around turn 20 I arrived and, taking advantage of the 0 upkeep, cheap mercenaries and traits of a Crusade, I quickly established a new Kingdom with Antioch as capital. I have now beaten the Mongols and am about to move west towards the Byzantines.

Best campaign for a long time
    End of an era

Yeah it is called 'mass migration' very similar in fact identical to the 'horde' function in ROME TW BI. You basically abandon all your cities and take all your troops/generals to a new location and set up shop in a distant part of the world!

Though you don't get scary horde armies when you abandon your settlement sadly.

Hehehehe, I liked the idea of migrating to the holy land, especially with England. Get this: The Pope declared a crusade on Jerusalem (In the game's year it was 1180) and a few turns later, I get a new general named... You guessed it! Richard! I sent him off to the crusade (Reached his destination in 1192!), as I reached Jerusalem (And took it, as I sent 2 armies into the crusade), a big, and I mean -BIG- army of Egyptians attacked my forces, Richard was killed along with most of my forces, I came back 20 years later, and captured the whole of Egypt. Payback. ... Which worked to my disadvantage as I was attacked by France, the HRE and Denmark a few years later. Yeah...

Oh do I agree with you. M2KTW was somewhat of a disappointment, M2TW is much, MUCH better, however I personally loved the Britannia and the Crusades campaigns, and played them the most, the Teutonic campaign is also very fun, but kind-of like the Americas, gets old pretty quick. I liked playing the Crusades thanks to the rich history of the Holy Land and the fact that I live there made it a special bonus (My GOD I wish we could build cities in M2TW and select a province, I'd build my city...), I loved the Britannia campaign as well because of the rich history also, and my interest in English history - - Norwegians in Britannia RULE!

I like playing as the Byzantines in the Crusades campaign. I like the way everyone seems to hate you
