Bribing works better with rebels than factions and better with captains than generals/family. It is also helpful to bribe faction forces that are not in home regions and in danger of not getting paid (bankrupt). Your reputation is also a huge factor.

hmmm meh. it is sorts of broken. in my games even when i have 10.000 left i can't even bribe a peasant rebel army... they always bable something about pride and loyalty... LMAO WTF ur proud of? And where's your loyalty? Your nothing more then a traitorous rebel!!!
E:TW's natives have developed a new "Ballistic Automatic Detection And Seeking System" to utterly annihilate any European that sets foot on their soil... That's BADASS for short!

I forgot to mention the authority of each sovereign is also a factor. If the poor peasant has a high authority sovereign and your king is a virtual noob -- If I was that peasant, money would not change my alliegance. Also, I am not certain of the mechanism, but there is a dishonor to accepting a bribe. It needs to be offered more than once. Maybe on more than one turn also.

Also helps to have a diplomat with a high diplomacy rating. I've had success bribing. I once bribed an entire stack of French units over to my side. Given, it was mostly militia units, a few archers, and some catapults, but it was early in the game and it gave me the upper hand, and essentially the keys to Paris.

    2 questions on bribery:

    1) Does the quality of the units count in the success/fail of bribery? In other words, do you have less of a chance to bribe Feudal Knights than, say, spear militia.

    2) I've never successfully bribed a city/castle. Can it be done at all? Theres the option, but it's never gotten me anywhere.

Not worth the time in my opinion unless you have nothing else to do.

Leave it to the modder to perfect the works of the paid developers for no profit at all.

It works, you just need to have lot of money. I bribed a tiny moorish town with 2 units for 40something thousand. It was worth it, as I might have lost my army if they hadnt sent their army across the map to get it back instead of attacking me.
    Men plan.

Bribing is nothing like it was in MTW. Virtually impossible in MTW2 which is sad as it was an easy way to gain a region or a really nice army. The amount of money that armies and cities demand is ridiculous, especially when they are low quality troops or an underdeveloped city. IMO it is cheaper to just conquer and kill.

Bribing costs more than just money, it also costs some reputation, even when it fails(and it does a lot)

There's 2 traits for Authority and 1 for Dread, for your Faction Leader, that can be increased simply by ordering diplos to bribe, regardless of success, so if you're strong enough not to care about your reputation (or its already in the sewer), bribe away.
