    Default phalanxe right flank animations

now in another thread i discussed the fact that phalanxes tended to drift right, which noone can deny. there have been excuses that they cannot possibly mod that in, but i just found a person who did in fact mod it so that the right flank of a phalanx drifts. here is his mod thread:

eb 2 team, you can ask him how he got phalanxes to drift right like historically they did, and now i intend to see that phalanxes are doing this in eb 2

Perhaps what you say is true, but it would only apply to levy phalangites. The trained soldiers would be able to overcome such unprofessional fears.

Though I could be wrong on this one. Could someone more knowledgeable than myself clarify?

it has been stated in several documentaries as well as in wikipedia that elite troops were placed on the right for this reason;however it still applied somewhat no matter who it was

Interesting, any links or anything to sources other than Wikipedia?

Doubt it. John cites Wikipedia all too much.

What documentaries are you basing this off of, pray tell? Though I agree that Elite troops were placed on the right, it does not still apply. Discipline can conquer fear.

could someone explain why phalanxes would drift to the right? Because their right side was the most vulnerable? Cant think of any explanation.

The soldiers in the phalanx (most often in the case of the Golden Age of Greece, due to lack of experience) would drift right because each hoplite wanted to be covered by his neighbor's shield, and that neighbor wanted the same, so...yeah.

But, I don't believe that would happen in a Macedonian phalanx; the shields were small and did not provide a terrible amount of protection.

that is true, the macedonian phalanx wouldn't have this apply to them. but hoplites still do
