or in some cases 'the west vs russia' etc etc

Western Europe+USA traditionally, but now also much of eastern Europe. Japan and South Korea is often considered to be western/westernized.
All of America's vassal's are the West, the rest are the East.

The rich and democratic ones, not including eastern europe or arab states.
The USA doesn't fit in the rich (thereiswas money ofcourse but it is in the hands of a small group of rich..) and democratic (president with too much power and corrupt police) part either...
Miss me yet?
The US is not rich all of a sudden? California alone has a higher GDP than most European states.
All of the Americas, the EU, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand.
This map is fairly accurate, although I might throw Latin America under the "west" label at times, but they are slightly different. I guess it comes down to where you want to draw the line in qualifications, but like I said, this is fairly accurate.
EDIT: IDK how to get the spoiler tags to work, so if a mod wants to do that feel free.
EDIT2: I didn't make the map, its off wikipedia and based on some guys work(not a random guy, but a scholar who's name escapes me atm). Albania is Muslim on this map, you can see the line go through the middle. I don't think thats the seperate between Kosovo. I also think CULTURALLY this map does a good job, although the whole new guinea being western thing is probably a mistake.

I don't consider Italy and Spain part of West...
Anyway, any ex-Communist European country is not part of West that is for sure.

pwf224, Albania is Buddhist on the map.
Is the map a division of religions?

Why Kazakhstan is orthodox? Stupid map.
West is Western Europe and North America, that is the countries full of Arabs and negroes.
"Europe has no balls to accept our truth, but has no gas to dictate its will"
simply put all the countries in the EU plus the few western European ones outside it (norway, iceland and swtzerland), USA and Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
And i consider Japan and maybe even South Korea as westernized.
South America too can be considered westernized to a certian extent, but it's not part of the west.

"Out of every 100 men, 10 shouldn’t even be there, 80 are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior and he will bring the others back.” Heraclitus
I don't know if Turkey is considered western....but I sure do live like a western along with many of my friends.
What is the definition for western anyways?
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

USA, Canada, maybe some of the more developed Latin American countries, Japan, S Korea, Australia, New Zealand, same European countries as above, but including Greece for sure, and probably Serbia/Bosnia/Macedonia/Bulgaria/Romania.
