Default The Demonic Regime of the Teutonic Order

    Folks,

What would the best faction to be to play the exact opposite of my Chivalric Kingdom of Albion campaign?

I'm thinking of a Christian faction that believes amongst the heathens, the fellow Christian factions are corrupt, don't take the religion seriously, and the Papacy is making a mockery of it all, goes on a mad rampage taking out everyone in an attempt for world domination.

    The obvious candidates are:

    The Holy Roman Empire
The Order of the Knights Templar
    The Tuetonic Order

The Tuetons seem like the most likely candidate what with how they're described to have behaved towards neighbouring Catholics, but I personally have an affinity towards the Knights Templar; their general history is fascinating to me, but I don't think I'd be able to stick with the first few turns in a desert wasteland.

Almost like playing a demon-faction, execute everyone, run down those begging for mercy, do not trade/ally with anyone, fight on as many fronts as possible - What does it matter? They're all the same, all the enemy.

I'm thinking if I were to play as the Teutons or HRE, my first target would be to march on Rome and make it my capital, over-throwing the Pope.

Being excommunicated sucks, so you might want to avoid Catholics. I'd say Novgorod. For starters, they're orthodox, so no excommunication. Also, due to their starting position, their northern front is safe. Third, 'Russian Blood' traits in family members allow for x% extra movement per turn, allowing you to wage war over big distances. Fourth, they've got lots and lots of ex-viking and ex-stepperaiding scumbags in their army, which kinda fits the description.

Alternatively, forsaking the safe-northern-front advantage, gather up everybody, cross Kievan Rus lands, hop on a boat, set sail, invade Sicilian territory and then the Papal States. Guaranteed to be interesting.

If you really really really want to be catholic, play....

Now this sounds like alot of fun, one thing for sure is you will be fighting on many fronts, you will need to build up a strong economy, then alot of forces, because once you attach him, the full wrath of the Catholic factions will fall on you, it will be TOTAL WAR. So you will end up being an Empire or dead!
If would start as Norway, then push southwards down thru Europe, by the time you get to the Pope you will have elimanated Denmark, Poland, HRE and Genoa

this kind of appeal, i would definately go with the HRE. i did the same thing with Byz, but i wasnt aggresive enough. i was hoping for jihads, naval invasions, land invasions, crusades of tens of thousands of soldiers, but im not a fan of the Byz empire, so it didnt work.

Go with the HRE- in the first ten turns (or however long you need to build a grand army-huge, not so much quality) make sure you wage war with Denmark, France, Poland, Hungary if you can get there, Venice, Genoa, and if you really REALLY want to piss off the world, send an army from Bologna to attack the Papacy- you will have as many muslim allies as you can fathom, and a more diverse crusade than can be imagined.

Hmm, tbh most other factions I don't like; I myself am a heavy infantry man, so HRE, KT and TO seem the best for me.

Perhaps my first move in a KT game could be to exodus to Rome and take that as a primary target?

I don't like to play the game easy, but I think I'd need to turn it down to H/H for this particular campaign. Wouldn't you agree?

I think I'll do this with the TO, I've not played them much, their units are a bit quirky but they seem to focus on heavy infantry and their entire description just sounds the part.

"Poland - A proud Kingdom... Once allied to the Teutonic Knights, now battered and regretful; must face the demons it unleashed."

TO or TK I personally think it would be awesome to do it as the Knights Templar if this is how the story went

Fighting an ongoing war with the barbaric muslims for many years has caused the Knights Templar to grow brutal, using every tactic they can find to win a battle and forever waiting on the pope to send reinforcements. But when the pope never sent the troops he promised tensions grew high, the templars being so battered they could bear the weight of the holy land no longer. A revolutionary leader emerged in their midst, (enter generals name here), he had a plan to rebuild the templar order and take down those who oppressed them. Within years he rebuilt the army and prepared a huge fighting force of knights to take down the papacy. They sailed across the mediterranean with everything leaving behind the holy land and sailing for their new home, Rome. The Pope looked to sea and could not believe his eyes thousands of ships bearing the templar flag landed in Romes harbor, startled he did nothing and thousands of the order surrounded Rome itself....

I think that would be a cool storyline templars driven to the point of revolution so that they march on Rome itself. and then begin to build an empire across Europe.

Dude seriously, go back to Rome. Legionaries are the only unit I know capable of giving you that much support to fight the world. JUst take gaul, Greece and the city of Carthage (to cripple them) in a rush. If sucessuful, brew up hordes of hastati everywhere and attack everyone, the senate included. You'll feel what Total War is like.

HRE cant beyour candidate, because a high dread game with multiple atacks at VH/VH will make the reich soon a small republic.Cristian orders are in the mission of god to fight heretics not assasinate catolics brothers(a bit tricky about Polamd).
In my games I make HRE ruthless after turn 120, they got thepower to kill anyone then, before you need time to keep reich intact.Like templar fighting against muslim make you a god servant so dread there is more pious.
Lets remmember the Longshaks, "Problem with scotland ...is full of scotts".
A great candidate for be a bad boy.Imagine how easy is to repel the crusades against London.
About teutons they are scary, very scary. At lest when they fight against lituanians and russians became very pious. When Poland and Danemark want their lands, then the devil is unleashed. If you wanna pure piramids of skulls and ppl sawed in half you got the best candidates for kill, kill, kill.
Mongols have a tradition of eliminating anything stand against.Otomans are another terror faction, they destroyed faction after faction and the janisaries troops sieged Vienna.

xzyx, you know this is Medieval 2 right, not Rome? Heh..

    The Story So Far...

The Teutonic Order looms in the mists of the Baltic to exterminate their pagan neighbours of Lithuania at Poland's request... More than willing to obliege, the Order has carved out a base of operations in the land, and after seizing Vilnius and Hrodna from the hands of the heathens and cleansing those behind their walls by fire before settling, the Teutonic Order has taken time, but succeeded in beating down the pagan foes who now hold out in their final settlement. Surrounded by the Order on all sides, they cower and fear for their lives as the ever looming shadow of the advancing army commences its final assault, sword in one hand, torch in the other...

Looking on in horror from the West, Poland begins to regret its initial request after seeing the merciless brutality executed so perfectly by the Order and begins to rally troops to its boardering settlements for fear of reproach.

But Poland is safe, for now; as Denmark and Norwary(excommunicated) wage war in Scandanavia, the Teutons have their heads half-turned from Lithuania, with a view to feed off the scraps of chaos this Northern conflict may bring, and turn the region into an isolated powerhouse for money, to fuel their military ambition on the mainland, and assault Poland from two sides; the Baltic, and Denmark.

Poland stands alone in this hour, as the rest of the Orthodox and Christian world wage war against each other, far too pre-occupied to notice the black hole Poland has created... And the demons it has unleashed...

Question: I've never played the TO before, how does their family work? It's been about 20 turns and no one has offered to marry my two generals, will this ever happen or should I be accepting the adoption requests I'm getting (I generally try to keep my faction tree 'in the family' with the same surnames rather than diluting it with random adoptees)?

No family tree is the best part about playing with the TO.

Nice intro. I'm enjoying my TO campaign as well. You can rename your own thread, just edit the initial post.

Nope, no marriage. No children. No princesses, etc for the TO. Your family members will be gained through adoption and man of the hour events.
