Default Should Tim Geithner become Treasury Secretary?

Should we have someone managing the treasury and bailout money who can't even keep his taxes in check? Honestly I can't see why he gets such a free pass.

They're not the best investment these days from a long term standpoint going back. I think they are in good shape going forward. They're in the housing market. I do think their prospects going forward are very solid."

From the reports I heard, it was some goofy rule that said he was technically self employed when he was working for the IMF, so he had to pay social security and medicare separately, it wasn't automatically taken out of his salary.

In any even, it wasn't a straight forward thing. But yeah, that is rather embarrassing, especially as treasury secretary.

No this is a very straight forward thing. An 18 year old general contractor with no high school education understands you have to pay the self employment tax.

He also tried to deduct from his tax liability the expense of his daughter's summer camp, which I can somewhat understand.

I think anyone in tax trouble ought to be able to get the kind of break he got.

Not being able to handle one's own finances automatically disqualifies (imo) a man from handling the largest economy on the planet.

well that and since we already had a man in who was an expert on the Great Depression i think Obama should have done the same thing he did with the DHS position and leave the TS in for a while to help transition anything. I haven't heard a whole lot on Obama's pick for TS, but so far it doesn't sound good at all.

i don't care if it was the most complicated tax bracket he could be in, he better know this backwards and forwards. And i think its gonna come out he knew about it, something about the statute of limitations running out.

Well I doubt we can expect much economic improvement over the next 4 years...

I admit, this is kind of a stupid move. If someone is showing problems before he begins his job then it's not a good sign.
