Alliances, how do they work?

My question refers to the one in my title, how do the alliance-system in SS work? (I am new to SS)...

They work the same as in vanilla M2TW. Except here AI is less likely to betray you.

If you keep good relations with your ally there's a good chance that they won't attack you like in vannila.

i thought that they were supposed to try and form block alliances, or is that only with gracul?

They do in my gracul's. Always against me, never with me. Damn increased difficulty makes me cry sometimes. :-)

I shall second that, was suprised to find most of the AI forming alliances against me when using gracul's. An interesting suprise.

If you just turtle and your a kind of a peaceful no-harm nation then oh well its a TOTAL WAR title and you gonna get it. If you however show that your have the courage and strength to fight - other countries will offer alliances themselves.
The game is too easy anyway.

i like the real combat, but im way too afraid to try out RR. i mean, i like how sometimes the enemy has a tech advantage, etc. also, im sorry but im not a fan of the supply system.

Alliances work kinda like this...

Seriously though, in SS 6.1 I've never been betrayed by an Ally, as long as I maintained good relations with them. One way to built a reputation with your allies and the rest of the world is to offer them "Attack Faction: Rebels" as a gift whenever you're going to attack rebels.
