The Sun Barely one week after the Sun paid some charlatan £££s for an entirely made up story we have this Epic Fail.
"ANTI-TERROR bosses last night hailed their latest ally in the war on terror — the BLACK DEATH.

At least 40 al-Qaeda fanatics died horribly after being struck down with the disease that devastated Europe in the Middle Ages.
The killer bug, also known as the plague, swept through insurgents training at a forest camp in Algeria, North Africa. It came to light when security forces found a body by a roadside.
The victim was a terrorist in AQLIM (al-Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb), the largest and most powerful al-Qaeda group outside the Middle East.
It trains Muslim fighters to kill British and US troops.
A source said: “The emirs (leaders) fear surviving terrorists will surrender to escape a horrible death.”
Now al-Qaeda chiefs fear the plague has been passed to other terror cells — or Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. "
One body yet an entire cell is deemed wiped out without any evidence to back that up.
Plague is endemic in the remoter areas of Algeria, I note

But it is the 21st century, you would be considered unfortunate to die from it what with antibiotics and what have you. As the Sun points out, the disease has an incubation period of 2 to 6 days. Far from having no tell-tale signs,as the sun suggests, symptons include fever, headache, malaise, and weakness,l lymphadenopathy measuring up to 10 cm, Commonly in the groin, followed by the axillary and cervical lymph nodes, sleep disturbance, vertigo, and loss of memory. Weakness, delirium and stupor may also occur, due to the effects of endotoxins on the brain. I might notice at least one of those symptoms let alone all of them, so there is plenty of warning before one risks entering the afterlife, so how could 40 people die simultaneously? Nonsense. The average person would seek medical help well before it was too late.
“It spreads quickly and kills within hours. This will be really worrying al-Qaeda.”
No it doesn't , as the Sun says it has an incubation time of 2-6 days, be consistent. Only the variant form Pneumonic Plague induces rapid morbidity. But it has an infection rate of 8%, reasonable odds I would suggest. 40 in one go would be unprecedented. The disease is usually associated with infected cats.

This leads on to the next story, the cell has weaponised the plague. Some plnker has allegedly told the Sun this without so much a detailed analysis.

This is a task whick quite frankly is beyond the capacity of the United States to produce in first class laboratories, so how does one expect some ill equiped peasants in a wood to do so? (I know the USSR did so). A bubonic plague weapon would be the lamest weapon on Earth. all you need is 3-6 days to find some antibiotics and you would have a terrorist attack with zero victims. I suggest that a C4 charge would be more devastating and lethal.
Now to the title of the thread.
"Now al-Qaeda chiefs fear the plague has been passed to other terror cells — or Taliban fighters in Afghanistan."
The bubonic plague is transmitted by fleas, who live on infected rats. To infect Taliban fighters in Afghanistan they would have to travel somewhere short of 6000km I can't see this happening unless the fleas, or their hosts sprout wings and they acquire the ability to distinguish between terrorists, the general population and NATO troops. Evolution doesn't work that way. A carrier of the airborne version would be dead or infirm before reaching Kabul, presuming that wanted terrorists are allow to board aircraft in Algeria with dead cats as hand luggage.
Question is this. Is the Sun now seen as a soft touch for those wanting to sell lame WOT stories for cash, or is something going on here?
