    Default descr_sm_faction problem

I was trying to change the custom battle availability so I can play other factions. But when I edited them from yes to no, and try to save it, an error occurs and won't let me save the changes.
I don't know if I was to edit the txt on a different file, I used the program files to edit them.
If anyone successfully changed the descr_sm faction file can you help me?

    I'm assuming you're using Vista?

    Try the following:

You need to give your user Full Access to the folder, even if you're an administrator, you're not THE Administrator (It's a Vista thing).
What you need to do, is right click on the Medieval II folder and select properties.
Go to 'Security' - there'll be a list of people, like CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM, and a few others.
Click 'Edit', and then click 'Add'.
Type in your login, and click 'Check name'. Provided you spelled correctly, it should change to the syntax YOURCOMPUTERNAME\Login
    Click 'OK'
Your login should now appear in the list, alongside CREATOR OWNER and so forth.
Click your login, and then click the Allow checkbox, next to 'Full Access'
Click' OK' untill you've closed all windows.

Vista is not so bad as it's reputation states, if you know what you're doing. It've just become a habit to bash it. Ironicly mainly by people who barely have tried it.

If Vista was any good, Microsoft wouldn't invest in Windows 7 so fast.

Vista was released in late 2006, and Windows 7 are currently planned to be released in 2010. That fits the release rate of all previous versions of Windows.

Don't get me wrong, Vista is hardly the best windows edition, but it's far from as bad as some people claim. Most issues are people who don't know how to set their OS up to their needs. By standard it's set up to meet the requirements of those who know the least about IT usage and security. If you know how things function, it does have a rather good customability. It's just not many who take their time to learn it properly.

I'm more a UNIX and Linux person to be honest. And if I need Windows, I go to server editions rather than Vista. And if someone asks me which Windows to install at home, I usually tell them to go for XP.

Which probably also would be the correct advise to people who want a install and run program.
Vista at it's base install isn't worth much. The Vista bashing just gets old really fast, and it really isn't as bad as it's made out to be, it just needs more attention, but can be made to fit each user better than XP can.

actually, with the recent release of the SP 1 for vista (whatever you consider recent) many test suggest that Vista with SP1 blows away XP with all the SP's and DX9, in appearance and many times in performance. SP1 and even DX10 for vista are clearly better than XP w/ SP3 and DX9. i found an unbelievable picture comparing the two with flight simulator, and many performance test either came out the same or with vista on top.

windows 7 will turn out the same as vista: so buggy, its unusable, then it will get better.
