same map, abbasids and umayyids have more territory but weaker forces- light cavalry/infantry in comparison to the heavy infantry and skirmishing cavalry of the spanish factions and the strong archer/melee mix of the greeks.

Byzantines control more of anatolia, whilst they've got a bit less ground in the Balkans.. However, the Byzantine position is much stronger in comparison to other start dates..

nahhh, the byzantines may look more secure but they're in real trouble here. To the north bulgaria is much stronger than later on, even with the imminent threat of the Magyars. The turks (whatever the name is in this campaign) have a massive reserve of manpower and developed cities. Apart from Constantinople, the byzantines have far fewer options, not to mention a basileous with really low authority....civil war here we come..Originally Posted by Shadow_Imperator

The Eastern Roman Empire owns all of Anatolia minus Cilecia, a sizable amount of the Balkans, Southern Italy, a third of Sicily, and a few islands.

I managed to not have much trouble as them though. I made peace with that Benevento state, and then focused on murdering me some Arabs. They have this magical ability to pump out stacks of crappy levy's, though by the time my game got corrupted, they were beginning to bring harder and more elite stacks...

Of course the gameplay in Chiv II is designed to bring better troops with the ongoing time in campaign.
