    Default Sourcecode

What would it cost to buy the Rome:TW source code these days?
Coudn't we just by it, if every fan ships in a few bucks via pay pal?
Then there could be really great mods, with no limits.

I know next to nothing about this but is that even possible?... Total Annihilation is 11 years old and theyre modders can change the game engine so Im not exactly sure.

How do you intend to gather up the money? And who would have rights if any of it be possible?

Well, if Sega wants to give it up...
I don't assume they're making too much on RTW these days, so they might as well.

There would be a paypal account and everybody can ship in.
Somebody must have control over that, a well trusted moderater, for example.
If there is enough money, the source code is bought, and will become open source.
I don't know if there still must be somebody who owns it, that might just still be Sega.

Then modders could change all the things that are now hardcoded. Practically everything.

I don't think this is possible. Because they are still using a similar engine for their new games (I think), so they probably won't give out their source codes.

m2tw and kingdoms use a modified rtw engine. etw is a new engine built from scratch.

So that means you would also be taking M2TW away which Im sure is highly profitable still.

CA/SEGA/w/e would never release the source code. At least not in the near future. That means giving up much of M2's engine, which would be pretty much unacceptable for them (keep in mind all the people who will need to go buy it once EB II comes out. )
