1st download version of urban militia shields
this is for the 6.2 compilation patch

easiest version to install

units affected - all urban militia

all the urban militia units belonging to approx 12 factions will get theses shields -- all twelve factions share the same shield texture files. This is the easiest way to install the file without having to modify the modeldb file. Simple copy and paste into your C:\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\unit_models\attachmentsets folder.

Later this weekend I will post a second version of the file which will require you to make a simple change to the modeldb file. This version will also work with the 6.2 patch. This version will only change the shields for the norway faction.
Lastly, I will post a version for 6.1 which will require a few more changes to the modeldb file. This version will replace the peasant file with CA's urban militia file. These changes will also include the new shields shown in 6.2.

For 6.1, recommend you modify the edu file by increasing slightly the offensive and defensive capabilities of the peasants. They will no longer be peasants but urban militia. Not quite as strong as spear militia but definitely better than peasants. Useful for blocking breaches in your walls when you are under siege and still cheap!


Last -- To get the shield wall you will have to modify the edu file in the data folder. I will explain how to do this later, or if someone else wishes to explain what needs to be done, great!!!


last agin, Any of my files can be used for any mod people wish. I f you want to change the files, go ahead. If you improve them, then post away so we can all download them.

Norway is one of my favorite factions in ss. What I would really like to see is Norway with a more Viking/barbarian look. I have decided to start modifying the units for myself and and anyone else who might be interested. I have started with the shield project first. Pictures coming.

Also keep in mind that the Viking ages are long over in 1080s, and Norway was gradually beginning to use more equipment similiar to that of the rest of Northern and Central Europe.

Thanks. I am using the basis that the viking age ended with the Norman conquest of England in 1066. SS6.1 I believe starts in 1080 AD. I am assuming that the higher tier units such as bodyguard units would have more up to date equipment while the lower tier units would not have the resources to buy or make new weapons and thus would still be using armor and shields and such that was handed down from father to son.

Besides the units could do with a little more color and the viking pics I have gathered show multi-colored shields and clothing. They also have a much tougher barbaric look with the older style of equipment.

I'm going to keep my eye on this too. Like Hekk, however, I want to underline that by SS's timeframe, the Viking age was all over. Norway was a Christian medieval kingdom.

That said, the faction could sure do with a makeover.

If you or anyone else has info on the armor and shields of the Norwegian faction feel free to post it or provide a link


Next I want to look at the shield designs of the spearmen. From my knowledge the normans were actually norwegians who received titles and land in northern europe. They seemed to use similar shield and armor designs. So it would not be to farfetched to use a modification of their equipment for Norway. Any opinions?

very nice! maybe it is possible to enlarge the round shields? and maybe use large, round shields for the spearmen aswell? armor, clothing and helmets are very good! keep it up
