How to run this thing?

Okay call me idiot, but I installed this mod by unziping and moving the folder into my RTW folder. Then I thought ill use the shortcut. For some reason, I keep having a message - folder not valid or smth like that. I cannot enter the second line needed and my game crashes right on start. Any help welcome

I recommend to check the location of your vanilla RTW.

The path of the chiv-shortcut must be of course the same of the RTW path.

Then plus the needed chivalry path addition in the first editable line of the shortcut, and it's done.

It's all explained, in the contained chivalry folder 'shortcuts' and also in the 'main-release' thread and also in the 'install-issues' thread (so you have several help-sources).

In principle it should be very easy to run this mod:
- Put the chivalry folder into the RTW folder
- Provide the shortcut with the correct path
- Play

I of course read through it, but - I am using the gold edition, and I am using a separate copy of RTW for this mod, cause I run several mods. SO basically I have a Chivalry special folder, I even set the paths as suggested in readme, but nothing really happened.

There you can see what Happened to me. First path is okay, but the second I cannot get there - it says that the folder does not exist

Here is another example for the shortcut-path for a RTW-exe, that works:

"F:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -nm -mod:chivalry -movie_cam

"F:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War"

While RTW is by default in hd-partition C: not F: - and details for Gold or Eras RTW path are in the stickied 'Install ...' thread.

More explanation

Location of the chivalry modfolder, or in other words, the above bold part must be the RTW vanilla folder location, where the chivalry modfolder is contained:

F:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\chivalry

The following path-part will "call" the bold modfolder location: -mod:chivalry


If you have this kind of path structure, then it MUST work, equal if Gold or Eras or whatever RTW. Important is only, that the RTW is a patched version 1.5 and is not modified.

My guess is, you have not used the modfolder but have overwritten the whole RTW copy? I can't see: -nm -mod:chivalry .. in your shortcut.
Also, it might be that you have not copied the whole needed stuff in the RTW folder ... ie. forgotten the RTW exe or other files?

I strongly recommend to install accurate after the instructions, then it will work.
I admit, i have no idea if Vista can make significant anger, because i run XP.

I have a copy of RTW named RTW Orig, which is unmodified, clean install of RTW Gold, including BI and Alexander, patched to 1.5 resp. 1.6 for BI. This I copied into the new folder, then I unpacked the chivalry and put it into the copied rtw folder. Basically, here is another screen of my problem. I do not know where the problem is...



Is it possible that te fact I am missing the -movie cam is causing my game not to load or proclaim the path non-existing?

No. What you show above looks okay.

But of course you could just copy exactly:
-show_err -nm -mod:chivalry -movie_cam
into your shortcut.

Install the patch 0.99.10 plus hotfix 1 and hotfix 2 and try anew.
I don't see why it couldn't work
Before you proceed this, start the RTW of this Chivalry directory (use a concerning RTW vanilla shortcut or the original RTW-exe for the start)!
This RTW (and BI) must work as usually! If NOT, then you have messed something up during the copy/paiste of the vanilla RTW, thus would make chivalry not working.

WAIT - I've overseen what you did in the second line.

DELETE in the second line of the shortcut: \RomeTW.exe

second line = "I:\Chivalry\RTW orig"

and the mod will work ... lol.

that is after I applied both fixes, or should I have applied only the latest one not both? Sorry for causing so much trouble, but i wanna plaaaY!

In this order:

0.99
+ 0.99.10 (patch)
+ 0.99.10.1 (hotfix)
+ 0.99.10.2 (RTW-exe hotfix)

plus eventually the last mini-update (ai formations).

Better remove the entire chivalry modfolder and apply the above shown install order anew.

Please give your info when this is installed and started.
P.S. I guess you forgot to install the patch 0.99.10

It is working. restarted campaign and ended within about 30 minutes too tough yet, think I have to start playing some other nation first...thanks for all the help

Curious, which faction and which difficulty did you play, and lost within 30 minutes?

I installed everything, first patch two fixes second patch and went to play my country Bohemians on medium medium. Having tried to conquer at least a single city from Rebels, I got squashed by their armies, and when I finally took a city it rebelled to Poland, with my army surrounded. So I tried again, building up longer, managed to gather some troops, and then wooho, HRE invaded my lands while my troops were sieging rebels. GG again
Also, I noticed very little pop growth and smth martial law which I am unsure how to use. Is it better to play on smaller unit size to have bigger army and still enough ppl?

With the Bohemians, you have of course chosen one of the 2-3 hardest of 20 playable factions.

When you attack, you should have a family character and his knights with you. They are your only elites at the start.

I think i should playtest Bohemia soon by myself anew to see what their options are in the first years. Eventually it needs tweaking.

Martial Law should only be applied if really necessary to drop down high unrest, while the most settlement boni will go away until you have the end of the martial law constructed (a follow up building for the martial law); see the building descriptions and the building-browser.

Unit size, i recommend: Large. That's the most balanced size in this mod.

Ah, that might explain, I actually used HUGE setting. Thanks for clarifying the martial law building.

I usually start with building +1000 income mines and disbanding half of the army to preserver some gold. But with two provinces only I am able to get about like 400-800 max gold per turn, which obviously isnt very good and with that, I cannot support much troops needed to conquer rebels, who have usually several stacks of units, and good units.
Besides that, why does my trade generate so little income?

It's all based on balancing, on global balancing. If the Bohemian AI would get extra advantages due to a little faction, then they (the AI) expand ahistorical. At the start you have of course a poor infrastructure. As Bohemia you must manage it to survive ... and if this can be achieved and you have the chance to develop your home realms, then you can probable expand ... but it's very hard as Bohemia

So, i made a short start with Bohemia: M/M as well, Large unit size.

Until 1080: i developed a bit Praha, and besides this i constructed 5 watchtowers to be able to observe the surounding neigbors, being warned if a large army would come near.
I also allied instantly with Hungary and Poland. HRE is the allied big brother from the start.
I decided to raid into Lusice at 1080. That was obviously a mistake.

My little army consisted of: Otakar Ryba (court vasall) and his Household Knights, Boleslav Premyslid (youngest son of the ruling Duke) and his Household Knights, 2 Spear Militia, 1 Doghead and 1 Archer unit, altogether around 260 men.
I sieged the capital of Lusice, in the same turn their Sorbic home army came out of the woods (unseen before), together with the garrison about 750 men. I withdrew, but came not far.
An army of Polabians, their allies, attacked me with about 650 men (lot's of light cavalry and wood infantry, and archers, just the poorer slavic people of the north).

My knights and infantrymen fought heroic, and we were able to let them flee from the battlefield, after all they weren't any noblemen thus my knights could route them although their army was reduced perhaps only by a 1/3 ( remaining 2/3 of them who were subjugated ), they bowed in front the might of the Bohemian knights. Victory!
The Household Knights got already 1 point experience with this battle.

My lucky moment lasted short: (In the same turn) a Saxon complete mounted army decided to give the Bohemians a hard blow. My troop was reduced to circa 225 men from the previous battle, the Saxons under Carl von Bremen came with around 250 men, but: Carl and his Household Knights, 2 Saxon Knights, 4 Mounted Sergeants units. Damn! The promising 2 Bohemian Nobles incl. their men died or were captured. Though it was fun.

That's the moment ... . I'll play that further probably to look if Bohemia as human player has a chance or not (earlier i observed, as AI, Bohemia makes it often quite good, but has also a hard life, always).

I think rebels are bit too strong But challenging, and I like the fact that they help each other and react very badly when I enter their lands. Maybe expanding cities more is the way to go. Although, wouldnt I run out of turns?

It's a mistake to understand them as Rebels and easy pickings in this mod. You fight with independent factions, not just Rebels. A mod cannot be more boring where the slave faction is a crowd of idiots. Not so in ChivTW.
What do you mean with "reacting badly"? They defend their homelands as any other factions, and even attack in some case your own regions and siege you. Their role works perfect for my taste.
