Finally wiping out the french?

'm playing a short campaign and the victory conditions are hold 15 provinces and wipe out Scotland and France. Well I managed to wipe out the scots after about 15 turns and have had all the french provinces after about 60... but french heirs keep popping up with small armies, i destroy them and (even execute all prisoners), then they go quiet for a few turns (no sight of any french activity between turns or on the map) before popping up again with a small army...this happens over and over! Any ideas how to finally finish them off and win the campaign? In the ranking screen they have been hovering above the bottom for ages! Im at about turn 200 and have been number 1 in everything for about 50 turns apart from military where Ive been number 2 for ages. Do French rebels count as being 'French' for the purposes of the victory conditions....not that there are any!

Maybe they have another Province, I hate to do it but just pop open the command box and use toggle_fow

basically turn fog of war of
use a cheat which revaeals the map.

Sorry to be dumb but I cant find any option to turn fog of war on/off either in the game I'm in or from the start menus.

You to use ~ ' or ` open up the cheat menu while playing the game and type in toggle_fow
This will make all the map visible, but remove it before the end of turn by doing the same thing, otherwise you have to watch every factions moves

in your case the french probably have 1 settlement left. you would know it when you have destroyed them completely because u would get a "faction destroyed: France" message

They may have successfully gone on Crusade - could be in the Holy Land. Send a diplomat to talk to the next French army you see, and click the "Give region" option under "Demands" to see what cities they have left.

thanks for teh fog of war thing.they had a sneaky settlement in africa i hadnt seen. didnt realise the map went that far down! thanks guys!

that doesn't works if they have 1 city left. u can't demand a nation's capital

A bit dishonest to your rep, but a diplomat could ask for ceasefire with exchange of maps. This should highlight the location. Or send spies to the logical potential settlements -- crusade locations, Iberia, Mediteranean Islands, regions of other AI factions that France was at war with. Also, are they listed as a vassal of some other faction? Are they at war with another AI faction? All good clues if you do not want to use the fow from the console.

Just taken tripoli and won the game...my first successful campaign..

.albiet on easy/easy!

Learnt plenty so hopefully my next one will be quicker!

Well done! It's always a joy to win a campaign, try a long campaign next or a harder short campaign like the HRE!

I would suggest several short campaigns to get a feel for how to play varios factions. Special mention would be a cav based faction, an orthodox faction, and an Islamic faction. Since you have learned the joy of the archer with England -- perhaps Spain, Russia, and Egypt to give a well rounded education. Of course you should play all of the factions.
