Could anybody clarify where/if we can create Syrian Archers in any city outside Italy?
I have no Syrian Archers available on my fully developed cities outside ItalyWas that unit removed from SPQR 7 to give way to Garrison Archers instead?
Hope you have checked readmeI dont know if its there but might be

Thy are recruitable in Asia.
13. Auxilia Archers can only be recruited in the Middle east Now.
I think Syrian archers and Auxilia Archers are the same.

Good point since I no longer use Archers other than with Support Armies
However, in the east Archers in general are more precious to me, together with fast Cavalry. I think they are slightly less vulnerabe than Garrisson Archers ... :hmmm:Other than that they are still far from the powerful Cretan Archers.

is there a decent merc cavalry availability throught the map - i'm making good use of the barbarian noble cavalry in N Italy but i'm missing it in the south (would help agaist the carthagians) so it would be good to know if i can look forward to good cavalry mercs in other places as well
Barbarian cavalry is available in Spain aswell.
Furthermore, in northern Greece, aswell as in Turkey you can recruit Sarmatian and some other cataphractish unit that I don't remember the name of.
From what I saw in battles, archers do not really do that much damage as in lets say RS, where couple salvos can exterminate 240 men unit. And since AI usually charges your lines right away, it is wiser to have the javelins as LPS said, because they do more damage on less hits, and can be real pain for charging enemy

There arent really alot of heavy cavalry in the east because there wasnt HEAVY cavarly everwhere back then. You need to Learn to IMPORT talent like the Romans did, do you think Bringing Gauls from the North to fight in the east was not Importation? If you have everything you need no matter where you go thats not realistic and doesnt teach logistics.
Archers are good to pummel and enemy while not all of them are engaged, also they are great for targeting enemy cavalry and enemy missile units. Hence why I use a couple of them, unless I need something else.
Well, since I fight almost exclusively Gauls, they always send all their units into the fight and bring very little archers to target, so I rather use extra cavalry or auxilia units. But I guess that will change with another enemy

Archers can give you nice kills on the unarmoured Barbarians. ;-)
How about their shields? I mean, so far I havent ran into much barbarians without at least some armour
