Default Generals with few Command Stars

My issue is it seems impossible to get a high command star general, when the AI pumps out 8/9/10 star generals all the time.

Playing on VH/VH England. My king has +8 to command stars in traits and ppl, but only has 3 stars in battle....

I have moderate: Zeal and can't see any negative traits to account for the missing 5 stars....

Any ideas, suggestions on how to fix this?

When selecting difficulty the game automaticaly gives star bonuses to AI commanders, to improve their skills in battle. It's not my favourite solution, but that's how it works. If you would mary one of the AI's generals to you family, they would loose the stars - traits that are assigned to him automaticaly.

I've also found it harder to gain stars with commanders, I think it's a thing of SS and RC, but it is harder to gain stars, you really need big victories - clear, heroic and lots of them, to have a great general. No more 20 year old 10stars.

If you want them to have less stars, you will have to lower the difficulty settings, but I don't think it's worth it as you can still whoop the AI no problem.

Agreed, I like a good challenge, just my King as been campaign for 30 years, lots of good victories, but still only three stars...

I've found that different factions behave differently. As the templars I managed to gain top stars with about 5 generals in 120 turns but I was under constant assault. But with the Irish the max I had was 6 or7 after taking all of France and half of Germany with One general.
I believe there is a connection to difficulty as well as faction zeal, but I could be wrong.
Also make sure that your generals are militarily minded and they gain stars and command traits more easily.

It is changed in RR/RC you can gain stars normaly. Battle odds must be 1.5 (you): 1 (AI). Best way is to achive Heroic victory 0.5:1 but in SS 6.1 it is hard to get any star.My favorite is Ringo star

I use generals in charges and I send them to kill routed enemy. After battle I always release them.I am not very interested in stars only, this is good but is posible to have a 3 golden chevrons general with lot of chivalry so the stars not being so important in battle.

see well, that's when your suppose to cheat
    give_trait this ______
i never really liked how the trait system works, and end up with garbage generals i make their life more interesting, for better or worse.
This is one cheat that is actually stranegly useful and fun. Who doesn't like to see their princess to be pretty and not ugly.. etc

+rep for me if you agree with me , i might give it right back to you

SS makes it much harder than vanilla to get command stars. It was waaaay to easy in vanilla to get 10-star generals. You won't see negative traits because the ones that make it harder are hidden. You don't need 10-star generals anyway because you have a brain whereas the AI doesn't and needs all the help it can get.

The point is wanting 10-star generals, regardless of needing them.

In Vanilla, I don't need to do anything to win but spam italian militia, but I want to do something else see what the game has to offer.

What's the point of being able to get a 10 star general if it's nigh impossible to get one?

You must tear yourself away from the bling concept. Embrace the Gospel according King Kong and enjoy a thoroughly satisfying campaign.

    Go with Kong.

When playing Catholic factions, winning crusades seems to bring a handful of stars, mainly due to the knight ancillary hugfest that ensues.
