Default How to make a testudo cover for the phalanx

I saw from the SPQR CG that the rome armies raise testudo to cover their head for arrow rain. How can I do it in the game? or just a CG?

When you will reach Marius reforms, soldiers will have ability to form testudo. Then you can do it

Only Republican, imperial and auxillia troops are able to make testudos.

I never use it except when attacking a city...the limited movement and the extreme vulnerability are not acceptable on the battlefield...it also takes too long to form and break the formation...it's good to approach walls but on an open field I'd rather rush to the enemy when attacking to limit their ability to fire lots of arrows and try to harass the enemies archers with my cav as soon as possible when defending...it's too risky on the open field in my opinion

I think in the history, there must be some reason for testudo. otherwise why roman create such a formation?

Testudo was to protect there troops from missile fire that is the main reason. Thy used it at sieges, i am not sure thy used it in field battles.

There have been numerous debates around this in threads here. I am not sure but I think the Carthage palaces are important. Palace anywhere was enough in 6.4. No longer that applies in 7.0

I think in some threads, he mentions this need for Carthage provinces, although not sure if it applies to all original provinces or just few specific ones
