I miss the poleaxe kill move where they send someone flying and when the halberd guy smashes the guy twice. How do you put these back in SS? Btw are there any other animations which was removed from SS?

Animations for some units were changed for unit balance reasons.
huh does the animation have anything to do with their strength?
Yes. It does. Different animations means different rates of fire and battle efficiency. A unit with bugged animation can't do anything in the battlefield even with great stats while other units with poor stats but a more efficient animation can work wonders.
so what animations are great? And what are the animations that suck? (in terms of working wonders)
I'm not an expert on this, but from personal experience, slow attack animations equal slow rate of fire, as delra mentioned. This means that the slow unit takes more time to land it's hits, reducing killing efficiency. What's more, while the slower unit is still completing it's attack, a quicker opponent has probably already landed a hit of it's own, usually interrupting the slow unit's attack, forcing it to recoil or block the attack. After this, the slow one has to go through the whole animation again, only to be constantly interrupted by the quick unit, even if it's a peasant.
In vanilla MTW2 (don't remember if patches addressed this) the two-handed units were particularly underpowered. Ah, the fun of having a militia unit block janissaries for a solid 25 minutes.
But I think we're missing out on some "killmoves" like the claymore to the heart or the axe smashing the guy twice.
I'd rather have a better overall gaming experience than including a couple of fancy moves.
This thread is bringing back bad memories of vanilla. I hope I never get suckered into playing vanilla again.
Yeah, probably, but I was speaking specifically about vanilla M2:TW. I'm sure ETW will have its share of problems too, but we'll be blissfully ignorant to a lot of the more subtle ones, at least at first. Give it a year or so, enough time for those shortcomings to be realized, and some good fan made mods made to fix/workaround them, and I imagine I'll post something similar about that game too.![]()
After I got SS I realized how dull and boring vanilla was![]()
here, I can't even play vanilla.
In fact, probably what will happen when ETW comes out is that I'll spend some time playing the Third Age mod for M2TW, expected to be released next month, and wait for CA to release their first patch before I think about purchasing Empire.
Yeah, the modding team seems to think they're on target for a February release. We'll see if they hit that target, but at any rate, they're getting close!
