    Default any must have mods?

I finally got bored off MTW2 and there's still awhile till empire , so going to play RTW again for a bit . I have repurchased it off steam (lost my old one) , so have gold version and data disks (never bothered with data disks last time).

Are there any mods people would say certainly make the game better . On the whole i'm not a fan of mods , only ones i used for MTW2 were 'retrofit' and 'grand unit add on' , thought both of them were excellent and kept me going alot longer than the standard campaign . I always play grand campaign , so any mods that improve that without changing the spirit of the game i would like .

    Any reccomendations ?

Try either DarthMod or XGM. Both mods are great
You just wasted 4 seconds of your life reading this sentence. You'll read it again because it was so funny and waste another 4. And since you read that sentence, some more disappeared, count this sentence and it's 'nother couple. Good job time waster!

XGM is my favourite, along with RS, EB, and RTR (w/ ExRM). They're all great, RTW-era total conversions.

was just checking out xgm while waiting for RTW to download , it does sound impressive . I like the sound of its changes like , archers and cavalry toned down , and battles lasting longer , units routing too quick so no time for tactics was always my biggest problem with the game.

Well, Scutari and Juli mentioned the usual ones already. I'd add SPQR, haven't played it personally, but it seems quite popular.

And there are of course mods outside ancient timeframe. I know, you said that you want only those that don't change the spirit of the game, but I'd still reccommend you try some of those too. My personal favourites are Fourth Age and Arthurian; Chivalry is also supposed to be good, I didn't like it though (but that was a really old version, about a year ago).

Does he want mods for Rome or Medieval?

If you want an interesting Roman campaign, try Imperator II...

and battles lasting longer, units routing too quick so no time for tactics was always my biggest problem with the game.
...you won't have to worry about that... (bleep)ing doped up Hellene elites!

First, the Roman stats are lowered so that you simply CAN NOT roll over anyone in the beginning.

Second, you have to fight Pyrrhus who has a gaggle of command stars, big bodyguard unit and (bleep)ing elephants!

Third, morale has been changed (I think that's a RTR/PE tweak...but it's in Imperator too) specifically to make battles last longer...

Fourth, the mod looks (bleep)ing sweet! The creator included scenes from the series Rome. When you get a new faction leader. General script announcements. Coming of age. Faction tabs. All of those now have shots from Rome instead of the generic images from Vanilla...

Fifth, it makes you start out with less money......so after you end your first turn...you're in the red. You'll stay like tha for @20 or more turns (4 turns-per-year)...

Sixth, you know what being in the negative means right? You can't retrain soldiers. You mess up and let Pyrrhus kill too many of your forces......you won't have ANYTHING to protect yourself from the Illyrian/Carthage raids...

Seventh, I think you will find trying to take all of southern Italy with one weak army will be very...interesting. Considering the only way to get out of debt is to take all of southern Italy...

Prepare for huge money problems... thats one of the main reasons i don't like it...
Rome: Total War 2 Then make nr. 3 And continue until it's perfect Rome: Total War 1000

The money problems are nothing compared to EB or ExRM. Just a small amount of increased macromanagement from RTW will do the trick. Or just play Carthage.

In EB i have no problems... if maybe you have'nt understood, your not supposed to have cities building stuff all the time. U think it was constantly being built stuff in the cities all the time, that they would improve so much in a few years... Remember in EB, if its not realistic its not in... When i get a better computer thats all i will play... never heard of ExRM:hmmm:

I don't really understand the middle bit, but EB and XGM's money issues (read: start of campaign) come from the increased unit costs (of which, EB's are higher). EB's is way worse, just check the start where you go far into the red with most factions before rebounding. I play both, I know what I'm talking about. That said, take an area like Greece in either mod and your set for life...

What i said was: In EB you cant have your cities building buildings (and other stuff included in EB) every turn. About unit costs... Well, then you ofcourse cant have so many troops. In my games i always have pretty fair even battles... In EB i play medium so its fair, not a AI who spam me with units...so dont play vh-vh

    Try Darthmod.

An AI that doesn't charge a general into your phalanxes from the front is worth dying for.

But the problem is that there's no modfolder, so I don't know what you'll need to do if you want to still play vanilla online.

If you want to play a non-modfoldered mod, you will need to make a new folder named after the mod, and then copy all your files from the Rome Total War folder into the new folder.

Thanks. I'll check this out. Darthmod was a lot of fun, but I had to delete it for the KotH thing.

    id recommend Europa Barborum
Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII

You can definitely always be building stuff. Just not right at the beginning. I still don't see what your original point was.

In XGM for both my Roman and Greek campaigns I jump started my economy by building lots of ports while I fend off the initial attacks from Prryhus and Macedon before I move out and attack.
