Icon4 "Conflict with Emulation Software" - Securom issue, please help!

I got Medieval II in December and have been happily playing it and now, all of a sudden and for no apparent reason, whenever I insert the disc I get an error message saying:

    "Conflict with Emulation Software detected.
Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=emu&c=2500 for further, more detailed information."

I've followed the link and it says as follows:

"SecuROM™ has determined that emulation tools like 'Alcohol 120%' or 'Daemon Tools' are running. Please be informed that SecuROM™ protected applications will not work with such tools.
Please unmount your image, close these emulators, and insert the original disc in order to start the application."

For a start, I don't even know what an emulation tool is or what those two programs are or what they do and I'm sure I don't have them installed on my computer. In fact I'm positive that, since the last time I played Medieval II, I haven't installed any 'emulation tools'.

Can anyone offer any help? I've tried using the second DVD and launching the game from its .exe file rather than through the launcher but nothing seems to work.

    Please help!

    Thanks in advance,
    -Chesty.

Have you installed any new software sinse you installed the game? Have you installed any of the patches?

I might have installed something... I can't remember, but no emulation software. And no - I didn't bother with the patches.

Is it that I have Battlefield 2 installed? I read somewhere a few minutes ago on these forums that having other SecuROM games installed can mess with Medieval II. I think I installed that after Medieval II too.

If that's the case I'll just uninstall BF2 - I'm hardly playing it anyway.

From other posts in the past, I believe you're right.

    Good luck.

Are you positive you have no other emulation software? From the top of my head these affect the game:

    > Virtual CD
    > Alcohol 120%
    > BlindWrite
    > Daemon Tools
    > PowerISO
    > MagicISO
    > Some forms of burning software

Unfortunately, DC, Battlefield 2 does use a different version of Serurom, and he's not the first one that has had to decide which game to keep.

I've played BF2 and the SF expansion with M2:TW also installed though, and I didn't have to uninstall one =/

Maybe you got lucky. There have been other instances in this forum that have not been as lucky. Check it out.

I have had the same problem as you have experienced, its such a pain! Securom. Also I do not have an emulation s/w running that I an aware of and do not really understand emulation s/w anyway. I've asked securom for a refund (a bit of fun). But it is a real pain when you buy a s/w program and their are no warnings that it might not run etc etc.
