    Icon10 Which Faction--

    Hello there!

I have not been playing SS or M2:TW for a while now, because of intense exams and varying other reasons, but I have decided to start again. Sadly, my will to start again quickly went away when I was faced with the early ear or late era choice, and even more when I was faced with all the faction choices. I have no idea which one to chose, and I have already played and conquered almost every territory with the following countries: France, HRE, Templars, Byzantine, Mongols, Milan/Genoa.

What I am looking for is a country/nation to play as which offers a challenging game play, but not impossible, good unit types, and a good starting point.

Does anyone recommend and era and a nation which fit well together and offers a good mix of fun and challenge?

Any help would be appreiciated as I really want to go play SS6.1 now!

My suggestions would be Novgorod, Kievan Rus or Lithuania. Or try one of the middle-eastern factions for something different from the factions you listed

I think Moors might be a challenge. Nice corner to start from and a decent challenge surrounded by catholics.

Norway, weak financially at start, excellent range of Infantry/ Cavarly and Missiles. I had great fun building an economy, then elimainating Scotland, England, Ireland, France, Genoa, Novgorod and Sicily. Established a strong foothold in the Outremer, fought the Fatties and Seljuks.
Just started a Kwarmezian campaign on 6.2 RC3 on early campaign. Started with six regions and five Generals, fifteen turns in, taking any Rebel settlement. Building my economy, need the strongest walls and fortresses to repel the Mongols when they come. I intend to give them a welcome they will not forget!

for your next one, try Ireland they are hard but they have good elite units, and you can get them early but you would have had to take scotland and england first

    Take templars.

Depending on how you play them... you might find them really tough to handle or actually incredibly easy..

Yea... Right now I turtled a wee bit too much, now I make 10k a turn and I really don't even know in what to spend it. So yea... it ended being easy for me. Once I captured Iconium and Jerusalem, my faction leader bought himself a Rolex to match with his Ferrari.

I had the same thing happen as England.. now I could spam so many stacks the game seems too easy.. I think going uber offensive as Teutonics is very fun, Lithuania, Novgorod, Denmark, Poland all on your back gets hectic.

I'd suggest the Templars, Lithuania, Denmark or Scotland.

just like nostradamouse wrote, Templars can be either really crazy hard or a smoothish ride.

Lithuania has a great roster, one of the best if you like calvary.

Denmark, means to grind it out against the HRE or move east agains Novgorod, north against Norway.

Scotland, a really good roster - except for cavalry, but probably the best pikes in the game - best for a late era.

i personally love playing venice, as it has many exotic troops, yet at the same time the same generic western european troops as everyone else. i also reccomend the retrofit mod, it adds kingdoms units to grand campaign, but only if you have kingdoms.

Okay--Thanks for the great help guys! (This is why I love TWC)

I'll start playing the campaign as Novgorod early era on hard/hard to see what challenge it offers. Then maybe Ill try the Teutonic campaign on late era...

Just another question... Is SS6.2 RC3 worth trying out or is it a bit more unstable?

    Thanks

6.2 has been a very positive suprise so far. Especially if one plays in the east and will have to fight off Mongols.
