    Default Faster Campaign Turns

    Hello there.
    Repman made some tips on the Faq´s how to make faster campaign turns.
    I use those tips but when i get deep in the game over 70+ turns the campaign turns are so slow is there anything i can do to make the turns faster ?
    My PC is new , decent hardware i play Age of Conan in Highest Settings.

    You play AoC on max settings? Your PC must rock.

    try these:

    1, defrag the drive you store m2tw+dlv on. also defrag the drive with windows on if it's different.

    2, set your virtual memory minimum to the size of your ram and set maximum to double your ram.

    3, make sure you have at least a couple of gigs space free on your OS drive and the drive M2tw is installed on.

    4, pull the internet cable out of your PC and turn off your antivirus and firewall.

    5, driver helper type software is ok but turn off everything else.

    6, before you click end turn deselect whatever you have selected, move the camera to the top right corner of the map and zoom in as far as you can go.

    :hmmm: I think thats it....

    Yeah Aoc works fine my PC is not highend by the way only got 8800GT Card ,4g ram , AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 2,60Ghz x2.

    Taiji most of them tips won't do anything to help the campaign turns, - and defraging has always been pointless in any task in my opinion (The reason that it probably isn't worthwhile in M2:TW is because in the end turn bit, the game searches through all the data files for the M2:TW bit only, not the entire C:/ drive). No offense though mate,

    If he can play AoC on maximum settings then it's likely he has a duo or core processor - thus disabling the anti-virus and firewall would be pointless since they'd run off a different processor anyway. Edit: Just saw that he does have a duo one so yes, my point stands.

    Having a couple of gig of space left on the Hard Drive won't do much either unless you are increasing the size of the page file - and moving to the top right hand corner of the campaign map doesn't affect the turn length of the Ai.

    Anyway - to decrease turn length, - remove the 'King of # is dead' - 'a princess comes of age' - 'A people in flight' - and similar scripts since these add alot of time to the turn length since the game has to search through each faction's family tree etc to determine who is of age and who is dead and so on... also remove campaign shadows as these add a lot of lag and increase turn length.

    Another useful tip can be to increase the priority of M2:TW in the task manager, although this can cause it to become unstable and there is more chance of CTD's occuring.

    These are all I can think of at the moment, just recovering from a Business Studies A-level exam..

    - Although to be honest, you have 4gb of ram there - I myself have 8gb and turns take around 20 seconds... so doubling that would give 40 - and that isn't really that long to wait per turn.. right?

    Go make coffee or something while you wait ^^

    Do i fix that in campainscript or historic event script ?

    Also can you tell me how to delete a faction like Aztecs from the game and remove settlements ?

    1. - Hard drive access speed, - understandable if the file was located in an obscure folder like the temp directory, but C:/Program Files is hardly hard to find...

    2+3. You'll notice I never argued these points since increasing the Page file and Virtual memory does help - "Having a couple of gig of space left on the Hard Drive won't do much either unless you are increasing the size of the page file"

    4. - Yes windows is crap at it but you can specify which processes are allowed to run on which CPU - via the task manager, - so when the firewall + virus scanners are running - in my case Avast! - I can set them to only be allowed to execute on processor 1, and set M2:TW to run on processor 4. So my point doesn't fail <3

    5. I never argued this point ,

    6. I still say that this would do little to help the game speed up... 1-2 seconds maybe but hardly anything noticeable.

    I tried it out like Taiji said still long turn times ; ;
    In what script i can remove those messages of A princess comes of Age , a people in flight ?
    The long turn times come when im deeper in the game and factions become overpowered like Egypt , Moors when they are big. They take most time.
    I would like to delete Atzecs Faction and some settlements in Africa any idea how i could make that ?

    Repman also said to make movement faster in strat map.cfg file i cannot find this one i only find strat map sound data files.

    I realy love Deus Le Volt mod but when im over 100 turns it gets so slow ; ;

    Erm... I think it's quite a long process actually, since you'd have to remove it from certain map files - and from location names, and then the descr_strat,

    1, you don't seem to understand how file fragmentation works, look into it if you're interested.

    2, and 3, then you just agree with me

    4, and 5, closing programs is much simpler than setting affinity.

    6, it works, 1 or 2 seconds for some people is 10 or 20 seconds for others and so on.

    If we learn something useful through 'arguing' then it's worth it, no hard feelings bro

    I hope you nailed the exam BTW, good luck with the result!

    @Maggy, how long does a turn take?

    I want to delete some Settlements from Africa stupid but Moors and Egypt always gets so overpowered and taking most time for Campaign turns deeper in the game

    Ah this seems fine to me, maybe you should try as Dauntless suggests and get yourself some more RAM.

    Are you using 5.8beta3 or 5.74? Just thinking that perhaps 5.8beta3 could be slightly faster.... I have no clue really

    Not sure it's to do with the Ram... I mean 4gb is more than most people have :hmmm:...

    however I do notice this bit... "AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 2,60Ghz x2." -

    Never been a fan of Althon processors.. maybe it's something along those lines

    Overclocked everything since 15 years ago when I got my dx2 66mhz to 80MHZ!!1!!11

    So yes, I'd probably do it just for the sake of it but Maggy wants faster turns, overclocking the CPU might sort that.
