Default How to charge the Equites/Cavalery?

    Hi, All
When I use Equites to charge the enemy infantry's flank. I found it's hard for me to control them. As when I double click the enemy, the cavalery will run into the infantry and trap inside the infantry. I must double click other place to pull my cavalery out and turn back to rush the infantry again.
Is it the way to use the cavalery?

When charge with your cavalry you need to have some distance to the enemy. After the impact you need to pull them out again and make some distance again for another charge.

Make sure to only select 1 cavalry unit at the time when charging, otherwise you will probably have problems pulling them out again after impact.

And also, watch when charging moving units the engine tends to send your horses way off

Equites can do the job but you have to charge weakened and wavering enemy units. Also you can fight enemy cavalry, but you need to either outnumber them, or bring supporting infantry unit.

I allways use both of my Equites units to charge one flank, let them charege the units thas has suffered the most, the once that are shaken are excelent for this but the once that are wavering are even bether.

This isn' t a problem if thy are yo deep in the enemie formation it means you waited to long to pull them back.

Yes barbarian merc cav untis are best becous thy have 160 men in them against the 94 of the Equites. Noble barbarian cav are good for this mission.

If you use both of them to charge one wavering flank the entire armie will start routing. Use them to rout one of the flanking units use the infantery that got releved from fighting to attack support your new flank and charge your cav again in the rear of the enemie.

I think you pretty much solved your own problem...
So there's no real question I think

To use cav, just hit and run.
Charge their flank and/or rear, get them out of there.
Redo and redo till they rout

That is true but Nobles beat regulars Thy still are a heavy cav unit. And it is always nice to have some noble barbarian blood in your armie.

indeed historically the romans fielded very poor cavalry (only the macedonians had a proper professionioal cavalry and it wasn't as good as the campainions of alexander) hence why the roman legion is so famous because it was a truely elite and well drilled force except for some greek elites such as the Spartans and macedonian Bronze shields(foot compainions) but this is where the romans did well as they were able to field far greater numbers

Just remember to hit only the weakened enemies, although I sometimes use cavalry in other manners, like sending my entire cavalry with AI general to prevent him from dying
