Default Future of the medieval total war franchise?

Yes I'm looking forward to Empires but it's castles and dragons knights thats my thing really, and it makes me wonder what Creative Assembly has in mind for the future.

Surely there will be more medieval titles? Surely they wont continue to follow history and eventually launch "total war 2150" or something similar?

So what could a possible medieval total war 3 have to offer? The first thing that comes to mind is an even bigger sandbox. Basically the mechanics will be the same (perhaps some minor tweaks and/or improvements) but the game is not limited to one era and one continent.

What I imagine, is a giant world map where all the factions are selectable. The Japanese, Romans, Persians and so forth. This will present some problems, as some factions didn't exist until later on. But that can easily be solved by rebellions taking place at the time the factions were created, creating those factions but giving you as a player the possibility to prevent it from happening if you were already controlling a province that spawned said faction. Kinda like the calendar system in Europa Universalis, where you can chose when you start the game and the map changes accordingly.

In the same way you have to macro manage a country in order to unify it and expand, you would have to macro manage a continent in order to expand further. Or, you could have alliances battling across the oceans and continents. Imagine an all out war between an Asian alliance of lets say Japanese, Chinese and Mongols (even though they were enemies) against middle eastern or European alliances. It would truly be total war. And what about the American tribes, or sub Saharan ones?

I'm just brainstorming here, and I'm sure there might be some fallacies in these ideas, but I have always felt that after reaching a certain point in total war 2, it has been too small. Its like when I pass that tipping point where my economy is stabile and I control a lot of regions I'm so powerful I can just take province by province, crush faction after faction. What if there were something beyond the ocean, something new and bigger to conquer?

I'm interested in hearing what you guys and girls might have to say about it. Do you believe there will be a total war 3, and what would it be like in your opinion?

I wouldn't mind a WW2 game, it would mean a new engine but they can further Empire. Imagine Germany and Japan winning and taking over America and Europe, then a all out war between them with Asia thrown in, how immense would it be! Trench wars and Banzais. Family Members trusted Generals, Generals Generals, archers snipers, towers and tanks, real economy. I'd also like a Cave man game Units and factions be hard but total attack and total war has another total

I think modern combat would be a game breaker, at least the way the game works now. Because weapons become more and more effective, so entire units could be wiped out immediately. And what about airplanes, submarines etc. It would basically turn total war into just another strategy game instead of the brilliance it is today. And lets not forget that ww2 games (and movies) have been done to death!

Thats my opinion about it anyhow :hmmm:

Damnit, the more I think about it the more I want medieval III

i would like shogun 2. i haven't tried shogun 1 (it's not for sale anymore anyways) but it could be cool. i like chinese/asian fights. like chinese and japan and korea and all the like on map, with the chinese gunpowder (fireworks ) and japan samurai etc. etc.!

A shogun remake would be so boring and linear Rome 2 is a better option

They will run out of ideas, Empire is the lastest it will get otherwise it just want be TW. In the future they are going to remake the other TW, becuase people will still buy them and it will be better then the first. I want Shogun TW. I think they will make that and then 2 years after have another Rome

Like Dewy says, I also have a feeling this will be the last of the Total Wars, and that they will start on another project.

Oh, right. Well, in that case, RTW2 would probably be the best bet. But I'm still quite sure that this is the end of the Total War games, quite sure. Since they've done pretty much every interesting era after Empire.
