would unification play a part? assuming Mongolia would be split into several regions, most rebel (although strong enough to withstand foreign incursion), it would then be up to the player to build up a force and take over these regions, providing a spring board for the rest of asia. or would the horde just be a scripted event?

Uniting the steppe tribes will be an essential part of playing as the Mongols, and will unlock certain benefits. Don't want to spill the beans now, but we will elaborate on this further in future. Its shaping up to be a 'mini-game' in itself (remember AoE ?) .

Quick question Yelu, did you do Mongol units for BC already? I know you did Kara Khitai stuff, but its been a while and my memory is foggy...

yes, they will be in BC 1.5 but as I said, they will be expanded upon for AUH.

The Khitan stuff was my first attempt at modding, looking back at those units they're quite bad ... I will be creating entirely new models and textures for them this time round .

Maybe able to help you lot with Mongol swords of the period.

I've been doing some research on the subject out of my own interest and it seems they had an interesting variety of sabers and even used Chinese style (though probably of Mongol manufacture) jian's on cavalry.
