Default Why is there so much dislike for Med2?

I see so many complaints about certain aspects of Med2, and these complaints usually come with a RTW comparison and how RTW was so much better in said aspect. Med2 has: far better graphics, better battle AI, an more in-depth diplomacy system, a more in-depth religion system, and more features (gimmicks?) like the Crusades, Mongol invasions, New World expeditions, etc. The cavalry aren't overpowered, spamming elite units for super-armies isn't as easy, castle/city option for settlements makes kingdom planning more important, and the unit colors aren't as awful as RTW's units (lime green and neon purple?). Is it just nostalgia or am I missing something? Med2 siege pathfinding annoys the hell out of me sometimes, though the patch makes it happen less. The RTW AI was just as prone to breaking alliances for no good reason, it wasn't much better.

It's not that bad, come on.

There's not that many complaints. The AI could be better but thats about it for me.

Less diversity is the only thing I can think of...

But then who cares about diversity when the archers' arms can twist 180 degrees at the elbow and have a third joint?

I completely agree with you. It is abetter game, although the unbalanced AI in Rome could make a more difficult game, with a large empire, but not necessarily a better game. That, I think, is a big problem with a lot of people, they think that, then they continue to make other problems up.

I say, if you dont like the game because "Such and such didnt have this unit"then off. (no offense). you are not deserving of playing it.

    Oh hell...

It's a GAME. It's not supposed to be perfect! I'd like to see the people who think that M2 sucks in every aspect do better!

Now thats hardly a good reason to not critique i can see flaws in a game but don't mean i can do better. But Medieval 2 is a fine game, one of the best i've played.

Nobody is perfect, and that's the same for a game. I like M2TW, sometimes the AI does stupid things, but we all do stuid things sometimes

The game is like the human. The human is one with the game. When they are one, Heroic Victory is achieved.

I've seen some long-term TW fans complain that M2 adds unnecessary clutter to the strategic level. To some extent I agree. As much as I like M2, Rome has a certain simplicty to it that is appealing because you aren't spending a lot of time micromanaging merchants and priests.

But graphically M2 is the best game so far. I know a lot of fans would like to see either Rome or Shogun updated with a sequel after Empire is finished.

Multiplayer is much more balanced in M2TW as well.

I play both but i prefer RTW although it has not as good graphics, it just runs smoother and the battles are alot clearer. In med 2 graphics may be better but AI is jsut as bad as RTW *clicks start battle* 3 seconds later.... *enemy general has fallen* i look and the enemey general ran headlong into spearmen and this happens often.

I love this game, the only thing I don't like is the AI, their inability to make smart deicions and plan their attacks and solve problems through diplomacy rather than bloodshed.

I like the game, I am kinda addicted lol.
If you face me in battle you had better rout quickly, or you might be captured...

Being a newer game than the previous, M2 has better graphics and a lot more good stuff. In terms of keeping alliances, this is not a pacifist series. Luckily, as Rome and the one taking orders from the high council in the game you can backstab all you want as long as you don't wait in an ally's teritory for a turn before you do it.

Also, keep in mind that RTW is waaaay more diverse in terms of units in relation to strength. What I'm saying is that you can pick a really hard faction and your units will be some of the weakest in the game, not to mention an economy that's very bad also. This is in comparison to M2's 2 million different units for each faction that are all as good as the other and no way of "spamming" units on the campaign map in terms of [historical] accuracy(Eastern Infantry and Chariots or Phalanx Pikeman and Heavy Cavalry with Archers, anyone?).

You can definately tell I am biased toward RTW.

People hate the game not for its flaws, but for its failure to live up their expectations. And i kind of agree with them, soo much more could have been implemented...but ETW was more priority...so well see how thats going to turn out.

Speaking of ETW, I was reading about it and it looks amazing! Although I doubt I will be able to play it, I can only get a stable frame rate in MTW at straight low settings.
