It's impossible, it's hardcoded. Marian reforms occur whenever a Huge City is built on Italy.

Aradan,in TE Lusted has TWO Huge Cities needed..how to change to one???? Rather than add new thread I ask here,as not sure what files are changed,so others can see.

TE probably uses a script for that and doesn't make use of the hardcoded mechanism, so you'd need to check the script (data/scripts/show_me/script_name.txt)

Hmm thought this also, but no script folder in (TE Gold)data folder????? RTW vanilla has as you know, but here via TE Gold(mod foldered)..nah...unless something I missed????

There has to be a folder for scripts somewhere. Btw, are you sure that two settlements are indeed required and that Lusted hasn't simply removed the 'italy' resource from some regions (therefore making them not count towards Marius)?

I will check again, and look at region per region, but yes 2 settlements as tried 1 Roma to no effect. As for script can't see..even in a sub folder...hmmm,have to look deeper and at old TE 5 and compare to TE 7(Gold),because as you say 1 is normal and he has 2 then the Mariun reforms can be altered...hmmm. I raise the issue because I have units of other factions tied to Marius reforms, but with two cities....very difficult and long timed to achieve.

    Ok looked today...hmmm

Lusted uses unified Rome so Latium is player controlled,Latium is not able to trigger Marius Reforms even on Huge City-tested via process_cq+add_population etc. #Settlement name "Roma",but "Rome" in texts so changed but still same results, removed "Rome" hidden resource from Latium in desc_regions.txt and still same...no Marius baby..

Other provinces(Italy resource)trigger Marius on single Huge City-I did Rome 1st thinking it was main city so should be OK,and gave false reading thinking 2 needed???

He has repeated map.rwm & descr_regions.txt via Maps--->Base & Campaign which is not normal for RTW vanilla-only in Base. Deleted 2nd data in campaign..but map.rwm is diff data(most recent) in campaign folder than base-so current game seems to default to Campaign folder for this file-not Base..hmmm.

Need caffine fix Aradan...my head hurts...aghhh.

So question now is ....Latium province in RTW vanilla can trigger Marius reforms or not??? Say if a Rome faction player defeats Senate there and builds a huge city would it work???? I think this is the problem, and other mods with unified Rome may also have same 'glitch'?????

The province name is irrelevant. The requirement for triggering the Marian reforms is the hidden resource "italy" which most mods leave off from Rome's province as was the case in Vanilla.

Not in vanilla????? Mine says yes, here is copy from vanilla file so I am confused???
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    RTW vanilla 1.5
    Latium
    Rome
    macedon
    Latins
    52 13 198
    slaves, dogs, pigs, rome, italy
    5
    8

    TE Gold
    Latium
    legion: Italica
    Rome
    romans_scipii
    Latins
    52 13 198
    rome, italy, slaves
    5
    6

Not sure what gives...so this is my confusion why Latium does not trigger Marius???? I do not have clean vanilla installed to check there???? But I understand Italy trigger,so why not Latium????

The rome resource blocks it. Remove that and Latium should trigger it.

Oh I am not sure what the ROME resource actually does????? Italy yes,for Marius reform, but Rome hmmm,in a Mod without Senate is it needed?

Thanks for this Squidy. I will try it out.

It's needed for the Vanilla win conditions IIRC, imperator. (It's also used for a couple units I think.)

Hmmm,so even in a Mod without a Senate it is required for the game to work it seems,oh...so I will have to leave in least something goes wrong in game??? Must make note in Mod for this as Latium not triggering Marius has confused several of us players in TE Mod thinking TWO cities needed-as we built up Rome first.

I have heard reports of not having Rome in EDB at least causing problems, but it shouldn't be necessary to put in game (via descr_regions) unless it is being used.

OK Bro thanks, have to experiment as Rome is major city so builds up first,so Marius trigger should start there logically.

I found that to make Rome be able to trigger the Marian Reforms, you not only have to give it the Italy hidden resource and remove the Rome resource, but you also have to change the internal name of the city (I changed it to Roma).

OK,changing the internal name to Roma,in which files sorry? So on campaign map it is ROMA instead I guess. Rome resource worries me though-did you leave in EDB or remove?

The internal names of cities are easy to change. There are only a few files to edit. descr_regions.txt, descr_regions_and_settlement_name_lookup.txt, and barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names.txt. In the last file you only have to edit the name in the brackets on the left. The name without the brackets on the right is what you see in the game. So it will still have the name Rome in the game.

You also have to delete map.rwm of course

I removed the Rome resource from its territory in descr_regions.txt and replaced it with a new hidden resoruce I called latium. I used that in export_descr_buildings.txt as the hidden resource for First Cohort recruitment. I did still leave the Rome resource in the list at the top of that file, although there is nothing referring to it anymore.

OK thanks I will try this out. Because of the complexities of the coding in RTW,I don't know if any change will cause glitches so I wanted to double check first if everything is hunky dory or not? Argh and I forgot the delete map.rwm....oopsie,thanks for the tip!
