The Pope was powerful in his part of the world in the medieval era. The orthodox never had a similar figure, in fact that was their argument that each major city have its patriarch but not very powerful and not in command of all the church. The orthodox had 4 patriarchs (IIRC) and considered the Pope to be merely another one, the patriarch of Rome.

Besides the orthodox church had the notion of caesaropapism, i.e. Caesar is the head of the church. The emperors took most of the big decisions regarding the religion, called for councils, etc.

I think one of your orthodox priests can get an ancillary making him patriarch of Constantinople once you get a cathedral there, but I'm not sure. Then again it's just an ancillary, nothing like the Pope.

The muslims had even less of a head figure. Imams aren't even priests in the Christian sense, they are more like teachers or preachers. Answering your question, imams with 4+ piety can call jihads.

Soory but you are wrong,it is true that TODAY every major orthdox state have its patriarch, but Ecumenical Patriarch is and today "firt among others".In medieval eastern europe Ecumenical Patriarch was powerful,ONLY one the emperor (Konstantin) was in the same time Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinple. After 1054. the center of Orthodox church was in Constantinople, until 1453.That 3 patriarchs that you mentioned, are P. of Antioch,of jerusalem,of alexsandria, and they together with Patriarche of Con.,and pope, represent the 5 oldest Christian Center, but after 1054 all power on orthodox Christianity was in Constantinople, until 1453..

Caralambio wanna explain you that patriach lick boots of Basileos because emperor was head of curch and the pope was not only head of catholicism he involved in very high political games. He excomunicate the HRE emperor, he said pass to Henry Tudor the VIII.The guy who ruled the Rome not was just a pupeters was the supreme puppeter because he havethe right to take you crown and send you to hell.A patriarch was similar to an archbishop/cardinal than pope.

OK, once you have an orthodox cathedral (Byzantium only) a priest that spends a turn there can get either of the following ancillaries:

    Patriarch of the Orthodox Church
This priest has ascended to the highest holy office in the Byzantine Empire. He is truly a selfless, spiritual, wise counselor to the King.
+1 Piety, +25% to Movement Points (gives armies the ability to forced march)

    or

    Patriarch of the Orthodox Church
This priest has ascended to the highest holy office in the Byzantine Empire. However, he only sees this as an opportunity to fulfill his lust for earthly desires and power!
-4 Piety, +25% to Movement Points (gives armies the ability to forced march)

Which serves its purpose. A Patriarch of Constantinople with Pope-like powers in the game would be out of character.

And also impossible to implement. Everything regarding the pope, crusades and jihads is pretty much hardcoded.

Another religious question I thought of while playing is that during this time there should be atleast some Jewish cities?

Also, isnt Islam divided in two or more factions like "shia" and "sunni"?
Before Salladin there was civil war between different Islamic leaders.
Maybe it is not possible to simulate this in the game, I have no knowledge of the game engine.
