This is on my saxons campaign which some of you may have noticed i am documenting a lot. I sent a huge army to Ravenna to retrain and once it had done so i saw the burgundi horde outside on a river. I had to pick such a ripe and obviously juicy fruit...
You can see the army there too.
Only 1 has turned up... oh wellYou can see a column of 4 high exp. saxon keel in the middle to block the bridge, 2 merc. equites cav. to swim across on the left, and a row of other saxon keel on the right with graal knights and general behind. The ballistae are on the right bank and will fire on command and the veteranii surround the bridge 'entrance'.
The general and his infantry have crossed the fording point after lining up Issus style and then crossing and turning to face the enemy's flank. Their general went straight onto the bridge and hit the shield wall before i could get on and the infantry piled in behind. He died just after this pic. The ballistae are shooting at the horses.
So the merc. equites cav. swam over and... they wouldnt attack the infantry from behind! Not for love nor money. So they killed those horses running around. The general and co. were still waiting. The Saxon Keel at the back of the bridge caused a chain rout, but because of my horses vaguely behind, they ran INTO my infantry! The sheer numbers got through but the verteranii closed up again and 7 got out... that's it. Well... 7 got out and LIVED.
Some of you may have seen my other bridge massacre, with 1120 romans dead in a much more compact space but i reckon that this looks even better. That is about 1350 burgundi (the rest are spread out behind the bridge.
Et voilá!
