CTD during load of every 2nd battle

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I have with my ExRM.

I have installed it with the "no nonsense installer" of bladerunner900 and it started right away without any complications. So I would have the v3.3.4 version if i'm not mistaken.

If I start the game and initiate a battle everything works just fine, but when I want to play a second battle, it crashes to the desktop when it's loading. It sure puts the flow out of my campain.

Now, can this be solved?

There's a missing model somewhere in descr_model_battle.txt, IIRC. If you haven't manually added any units into the game, replacing your DMB with the one in the zipped patch file should clear it up AFAIK.

I'm afraid I didn't quite understood your post pannonian. I'm not that familiar with the modding terminology:p.

What does DMB stand for?

DMB is descr_model_battle.txt. It's in the Data folder. I had the same problem when I added some vanilla units back in, and found out that it had something to do with the DMB when I researched the problem. Pity, as wardogs are teh cool for hunting rebels with.

Hi Charontas.

if you are still having your CTD problem I would try doing a clean install of of the game and the mods. I know it is a pain in he arse as i have had the same problem when i first played RTWP with EE but a reinstall sorted it out. It is worth it mate im have lots of fun

If you are using vista remember when you install rome, explore the disk right click on the install icon go to Compatiablity and tick run in xp service pact2 thingy, some with the mods.

I thought I'd seen someone mention this before. That solution should work.

This does sound like the missing model issue--that said, I'd be stunned if there's a missing model in a full and complete installation, so it's likely an installation problem. It's not bug-free, but it should be free of _that_ bug.

I have tried replacing the DMB in the ExRM file with the one that's in the WinRAR file, but it didn't fixed the problem. I souldn't replace the one that is in the main Data folder for RTW, right?

Anyway, I'll try a complete reinstallation when I find the time. I'll let you guys know if that will do the trick.

I tried reinstalling everyting again (after a reformat) and I keep getting CTD's every time I have to play 2 battle is a row. Now I really don't know what to do.

I don't think it has anyting to do with my operating system, since it's windows xp home, and not vista.

If you are going to replace it, then it should be the one in here:
RTW\ExRM\Data\DMB.txt

and not (like I think you said correctly already):
RTW\Data\DMB.txt

lol... The same here buddy... When I first Installed RTR I had some big trouble too... Re-installing time after time... But in the end it will work as intended

edit: PatricianS, I've been checking the previews of RTR VII:FOE and I must say it looks great.

No, I systematicly get thrown to my desktop every second battle I try to play. So siege battles, sally forth's, brigde battles, field battles,... Every type of battle.

It's not pleasant to say the least.

I can't remember installing any patch...:hmmm: I've always assumed that the 'no nonsence installer' included everything I needed, including patches.

Will give it a try thou, even if I've got to restart my campain all over (and lose my maxed out general/faction leader "Augustus the Mighty" )

Oh, wait, I thought you reinstalled not using the installer. Have you tried that? If so, you would've had to install the patch.

Don't worry, it should be savegame compatible. Just copy your save file to somewhere safe.

For instance, some of my regions or provinces have switched owner, but the cities are still mine. This happend troughout the entire worldmap.

And the traits of my generals are also alterted, for example my "Augustus the Mighty" became Augustus Afranius again and instead of commanding the First Consular Army, he's now in charge of the XVVIII Legion or something like that.

I think the best thing for me to do right now is to start a new campain

Anyways, I'm still glad I can fight several battles in a row now. I owe it all to you guys, thanks alot. I would be glad to rep you but I don't think that option is available for me, yet.

Sorry for taking so long to respond to this. I've been a bit busy lately.

For the record. The installer is a combination of the 3.2 mod plus the 3.3.4 patch plus the 3.3.4g hotfix. After having played this mod for some time, I have yet to experience a crash and that is after fighting several consecutive battles. So I have no idea why you are having so much trouble with this mod. Sorry!

The only thing I can suggest is to re-install RTW, re-install BI and make sure they are version 1.5 and 1.6 respectively.
