It was not that difficult when I made it for 6.4. The instructions in the links to that thread in this forum are quite easy to follow for anyone. I could do it but for the moment I have not seen any immediate need for it. Two things:

    1) Even if you make peace with Gauls through force diplomacy, they might very well attack you a few turns later ...

    2) LT removed AI diplomats from 7.0. Hence the initial reason why we created force diplomacy for 6.4 was to control settlements (e.g. from being bribed, allowing superfactions to get out of their nets) is no longer as valid with 7.0 as it was with 6.4 ...

Gauls will send wave after wave, and personally I think that is one of the cool things with SPQR.

What has worked for me (for a few turns at a time) is to:

    A) Take Mediolanum and maybe Nicea and therafter stop the advance north for many years

    B) Make sure you have several legions stationed in those settlements. That might prevent Gauls for a while but on the other hand might make them send many more stacks at same time when they do come ...

    C) Take Patavium and let Roman Rebels take it over (or Dacia through diplomacy ...) . That way Gauls will only come from the west.

I do not see anything in houserules against that. It happens from time to time anyway that you loose some settlements ... I let Gauls keep Patavium in my current campaign and I am in 169BC cause I like the Gauls coming at me.

I find that parking 6 legions (4 in Italy, 2 in Iberia) near gaulish border + full loaded garrison troops in border towns has slowed down the onslaught... It takes 3/4 turns or even more before they assemble new armies and attack...

    40. Don't allow/make cities to rebel to Roman Rebels to use as a Buffer.

Maybe I just got it wrong. Anyways, in my campaign, Gauls are sending stacks EACH turn and I mean literally, I have 4 legions + 2 huge garrisons and its actually about 50% of my armed forces that are defending the place, and cities are running manpower dry sometimes. One turn its just 2 stacks, next its like 5 or so...

Increase your number of legions in the north. Basically RTW AI in campaign decides your strength and whether to attack or not, the more powerful you are in the area the more they will back off. Just like real life. hence why the romans had legions stationed all over the place with auxilia also.

Great post, I've had a feeling this is the case, but nice to have it confirmed.

So having 4 full legions and 2 strong garrisons is obviously not enough?

Nope im also using four legions at the moment and they still attack me (gauls that is). Perhaps five would do the trick but im thinking of raising up to six or seven legions if the economy allows it and push them back further.

I have the same idea. I am currently maybe two three turns from totally dominating Africa, at least its Carthage part, so I can disband some of the mercs there, leave just garrisons and use the extra money to finally begin my pushing back onto north and invasion of Greece, which somehow keeps expanding

Well, just a feeling I've had. The years I've increased the presence up in the north I haven't been attacked, and if I let the numbers dwindle a little, I get attacked again.

Okay, after very brief attempt, I got the Force Diplomacy to work, tested it twice. First for ceasefire only, second I made Gauls gave me their every province so it sholdnt be coincidence. Thanks to LPS for this I can play now

I am not trying to start something but I was struck by the tone of this post earler on -- seems like a double standard?
