    Default Goverment Points

    Hello people

These gov points seem hard to get and harder to maintain ... I still dont know who to gain them by the thousands, I seem to lose them faster than gaining them.:hmmm:

One question: What happends if you reach 0 gov points? do you get revolts or anything like that?... also can anyone show me a way to gaining them and specially to maintain them?

What I do to get gov points at the start of campaign is sending a diplomat across the whole map and getting trade agreement with every country and also exchanging maps but not in the same offer - first goes proposal of trade rights (+1), second is map exchange(+1) and you have two points just like that. Other thing is I really try to execute every missions I get. When I get enough points to build markets and train merchants it goes very quick to max level and I don't bother anymore.

Sounds good, I've recently started to do more diplomacy, I used to play RTR but DLV it's totally a different animal... I have never really focus in the political part of the game and it's awesome... I think my problem is that I'm way too focus on the military aspect and my armies are costing my... besides I'm not really in any threat. By the way I'm playing with England and I have conquered all of the british isles. So I guess I have to disband my armies and start diplomacy right away.

But still what happens if you reach 0 gov points? nothing or defeat? what consecuences does it bring?

since i think you start off with both 0 gov and 0 mil points i dont think it has any major effect, but when you start to go below 0 gov points is when bad things happen like rebellions etc

Its funny, I have it exactly the other way around. I have my gov points maxed out for many years now and I still only have 16 military points. Its starting to annoy me because My castles are starting to be pathetic compared to all my neighboors

For the gov points I do the same as described above. Make a lot of trade right agreements and alliances etc and as soon as you can, start building markets everywhere and start conquering the world with your merchants. Its also a big economic boost. Some good placed merchants can bring in as much as 3000 fl a turn.

From my experience, I do not think anything happens by getting to 0 gov. points. Gov points give access to higher tier markets, which are actually needed to upgrade the walls. The problem is that if your cities keep on growing, you cannot upgrade them and squalor could indirectly lead to rebellions (yellow faces = high probability for nasty rebels to appear). Happiness is not a major problem since, even though you cannot construct happiness buildings, the happiness penalty for larger walls does not kick in either.

So basically the trick is: 1) No HUGE army, 2) Merchants by the thousands, 3) Trade agreements, alliances and map info to almost every faction, 4) Try to keep your treasury up the 60000F, 5) No upgrading Castles; and 6) No upgrading Cities beyond wood walls. Since if you upgrade to a stone wall you get a gov point penalty.

    Am I right?...

Also I dint know that you can have -x Gov Points... right now I'm 100 mil points and 0 gov points, that's probably not good

You shouldn't stick to it. Small cities won't give you decent income and if they are not upgrade when needed squalor will grow constantly decreasing happiness in the city.

First you will lose points for beack an alliance....
Second you will loose points for starting a war...loose Gov. Points and Gain Mil. Points. ...
You only loose points ONCE ...not per turn...here is a list of what happen when you start a war against your ally :
    Gov. Points :
    - FactionBreakAlliance: -2
    Mil. Points :
    - FactionWarDeclared: +1 (-1 gov. points)

So...if you declare war on you ally faction you will gain 1 Mil. Points and you will loose 3 Gov. Points...teoreticaly...if the screeps work corect(I didn't test this situation) this is what will happen...if not....god protect us all

Thanks... So I guess breaking the alliance before declaring war is totally pointless , then I'm just gonna attack

yes..there is no point in breacking the alliance then declare war...because is the same thing even if you just attack them and become enemies with them...is like this :
Case 1 : breack alliance then declare war...
step one : the alliance is breaking
step two : the war is begining
    Case 2 :
instantly declare war by attacking him ....
step one : the alliance is broken and the war is started (2 steps in one...)

so...no matter what path you choose it will happen the same thing...but if you break the alliance then declare war is like taking little baby steps is like you first tell your enemy that you don't want to be their allies anymore...and warn them that you are their enemies and tell them to prepare for your invasion and the instantly declaring war on them by attacking them is like :
Ha Ha Ha bastards you are mine now...KILL THEM ALL !!!!!!!

Governers ring and other high level magistratus ancillaries give +1-something to gov points. A good governer makes enough of a difference to negate the cost of the wall in gov points.
